Saying SJP looks like a horse makes you look like an ass.

Belittling people's bodies is bad form, regardless the target. But as creekster's quip appears to acknowledge, some sectors of society are more susceptible to be harmed by these attacks than others, and I think that is worth our consideration.

Call me crazy, but I don't think wealthy fashion icons and Hollywood celebs are particularly susceptible to harm. But I suppose you see yourself taking a noble stand for women in general. Ironically, it could be argued that the fashion/movie industry does far more harm to women's self-esteem than IPU's post. It is just this kind of selective, patronizing feminism that always made you so popular with Babs.

I have no doubt that it is often women who compare SJP to a horse. Men do it too, but women are catty like that. Most of them just wish they were as in shape as she is, so rather than back away from the mormon potatos they instead point out that she has a big nose and a long face while drawing comparisons to a horse to help them feel better about the fact that they can just barely squeeze into their size 14 pants...

            Just sayin...

I must admit I am surprised that Robin hasn't blasted the Matt and Trey video posted. I assume he is as turned off by their reprehensible humor as he is at IPU's.

I doubt that Robin would have made such a stand if anyone else would have the OP.

Had ilPad ridiculed the physical appearance of a wealthy Hollywood celebrity with Down's Syndrome, I'd bet you would take my side on the issue. It isn't about 'women,' per se. The Bush/Monkey images are offensive for the same reason that the SJP/horse comparison is offensive. However I think that the SJP joke has a greater potential to cause broad social harm, so it rose to a level where I thought it was worth calling out. But I would also call out a post that ridiculed little people, or people with uni-brows, or the obese, regardless of sex.

And I am not a 'selective, patronizing feminist.' My feminist ideals are consistent, and I would bet, as informed and considered as the feminist ideals of any other CUFfer who claims to be a feminist. We could have a real dick-measuring contest on this point, and I would win.

She does look like a horse; an ugly horse. In fact, it's an insult to ugly horses to compare her to them.

And I already know I'm an ass, so if you were trying to stick it to me, you've failed.

I'm more interested in why IPU is so worked up about SJP's appearance than how fair/unfair his characterizations are.

Why? Because it's fun to mock her looks. I'd mock her work, but I've never seen anything she's done.

Hard to say. On the one hand, I do enjoy pointing out ilPad's ass-hattery. On the other hand, I doubt anyone else would have made the original post. So who knows?
