What's the worst concert experience you've had?

I was in attendance. You got the story right, but it was September 17 2001 and the band was Cold opening for Weezer and there was no Dashboard Confessional. They powered through the last song, got mild applause, and the lead singer, to his credit, threw up the weezer "W" to the crowd's approval. I was worried Rivers would take it out on the crowd because that guy was right-- Weezer invited them to open because Rivers has a thing for butt metal.

For my wife's birthday, we went to a Counting Crows/John Mayer concert in Indiana at an amphitheater out in the middle of the country with limited road access. Started 1.5 hours late due to traffic being so snarled. They didn't want to begin until most of the people had a chance to get in.

Had 2nd row seats but had to leave after two John Mayer songs because it was so late and the babysitter had to be home.

I thought the Cure was boring. Robert Smith has horrible stage presence. Sorry DDD. He definitely doesn't have the moves like Jagger.

I never saw the Cure after that because I think pretty much everything after Disintegration completely sucks and even disintegration was a huge step towards suckiness.

I've never seen the Rolling Stones live nor do I have any interest but I will take your word that Mick is more exciting than Robert Smith.

Seventeen Seconds, Pornography, Japanese Whispers.....that is when the Cure was at its best. Disintegration's biggest selling point was that every song seemed to last 8 minutes. Lovesong....oh, brother.

At any rate, I agree that those albums you named are fantastic. I also have a major crush on Lullaby, Plainsong, and Pictures of You. I like their dark stuff and their pop stuff--everything. In fact, One Hundred Years is probably near the top of my favorite Cure songs. Most bands peter out over time, but Disintegration is about as close to perfect as it gets.

I don't think they are particularly exciting in concert, either. The best show of theirs that I saw was probably the Kiss Me 3 show...much more animated, to the extent that was possible. The Dodger Stadium show was a better overall experience because they played with Love and Rockets and Pixies on the bill.

I'm not concerned with their selling out. I'm just concerned with the songs sucking. Their synth experiement with LGTB or even The Walk was interesting at the time because that is what bands were doing. That was the direction it was going. Also, infighting with the band reduced their overall lineup so the synth venture was convenient. I think they found that a traditional lineup suited them better. Why Cant I be you, hot hot hot, just like heaven....very popular songs but they are great songs.

What good albums have they released since that time? They all suck. If selling out were my concern, i would be thrilled with their newer albums since nobody seemed to buy them.

On Disintegration, I really like Lullaby and Fascination Street. Lullaby particularly is classic Cure. By the time they started doing crap like Friday Im in Love, Mint Car, etc....yikes.

I think my fave albums of theirs are THOTD, Boys Don't Cry, and Pornography. Boys Don't Cry might be my tops.

Worst show of all time. It felt like it would never end. I know maybe 6 Gloria Estefan songs. The problem is that she plays around 25 songs in her show. And many of them are these insanely long salsa jams, everyone onstage speaking in Spanish, lots of bongos and timbales and basically everything that is annoying about Spanish music. There I was in Detroit, a horrible city, on a quasi date with a hippie gasoline additive technician, listening to Gloria Estefan implore me to shake my body, asking me to get on my feet, commanding me to turn the beat around, and warning me that the rhythm was going to get me.

Almost 3 hours later the show ended. It took forever to get out of there because the woman that invited us had to go to the bathroom and also wanted to buy a concert t shirt. To this day I have a visceral reaction to Miami Sound Machine. I can't stand that kind of music and I no longer attend shows when I know I don't like the type of music being played.

That may be the funniest thing you've ever written on here. It may be on the only funny thing you've written on here and, thereby, the funniest also!

I saw a Ben Folds Five concert in NYC (The Beacon). BFF was fine.

Rain opened for them. I wanted to poke my eyes out.

Fine? He has great stage presence and has been a blast the times I've seen him.

I also saw Train perform at Jingle Ball at the U in 1999-ish. We had great seats, around the 20th row, and I was nodding off. Fortunately, I was there for that but to rock out to Def Leppard later on and rock out we did.

Worst concert I ever attended was Erasure at Park West. The problem wasn't the group or the singer in the pink tutu. The problem was I took a girl who brought her little brother along. Little brother decided to ditch and we spent hours trying to find him after the concert. (Kid was about fourteen). Kid had found some girls and went home with them. It was all I could do when we got home not to wring his neck.

This kid was the grandson of a famous GA, star athlete, drafted out of high school, had a minor league career, married in the Temple, divorced, became a drug addict/roider, got in major financial trouble, and ended up killing himself.

I should have seen it coming.
