  • I saw Beck in Tucson last night-- my first time seeing him and way better than I ever thought it would be. Center rail at a sold out gig! :rockon2: He started out w a run of Sea Change/Morning Phase songs then kicked it into high gear w Devil's Haircut and ran through some of the hits + Modern Guilt, heavy on the Odelay side of things. It might have gotten the hottest and sweatiest during Get Real Paid, though. A+ show.

    • Nice. You going back for Grouplove tonight?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I saw him at Coachella in 2004 a couple of years after Sea Change. I remember him spending his whole set playing music with a Game Boy or something really experimental. No songs from Sea Change. Or even Odelay, if I remember correctly. Just strangeness.

Here's a clip from Coachella a couple weekends ago. A short Arcade Fire cover then Blue Moon.

I didn't make it up. Heard great reports though. Might remiss this one for awhile, but it just wasn't reasonable.

Ha- no; I can't stand that drive down to Tucson. I'll only do it for bucketlist-level shows. Did the Sufjan Christmas show and now Beck. Amazing venue, though- 2 for 2 in great show experiences.

Phoenix tends to get the same shows as Tucson, but sometimes annoyingly Tucson gets an awesome show and Phoenix doesn't.

Rather an admission. I haven't always possessed the wherewithal to just up and see whatever show I wanted. Plus he's had very erratic touring schedules over the years.

              • Now that landpoke is gone, this probably doesn't excite anyone but me, but I'm going to George Strait's last concert outside the state of Texas. For our 20th anniversary, I'm taking my wife to Boston (our favorite city) to watch a Red Sox game (not a fan, but have to see a game at Fenway) and then see King George in Foxborough. It will be a bittersweet moment.

Awesome. The game, not the concert
Enjoy Fenway. It's magical, even for a bandwagon fan like myself.

                    • I accompanied my wife to see Nickel Creek on their reunion tour last night. I am not very familiar with them at all and only recognized one or two songs. But they're my wife's favorite. It was interesting being at a show where I didn't know the music. Everyone around me though would erupt into screams and applause after playing one or two bars and sing along with the songs. I will say that the show ended up being very good. All three are incredibly talented musicians and singers. That dude on the mandolin though was amazing. Bluegrass/folk/country isn't my wheelhouse, but just based on what I saw and heard, he has to be world class on that thing. I also found out that a good friend of mine is friends with the fiddler having grown up in Vista with her.

The venue was in Charlottesville and is situated at the end of Main Street. We ate dinner there outside before the show. It's actually a super cool environment and was the first time I had been there. Worth checking out if BYU ever gets back there again. Gidget was amazed by the way everyone dresses there. I told her that is what they wear to the football games as well.

Also, the opening act Secret Sisters was great. Very rock, 50's influenced sound to their country. I was reading up on them and I guess they've been working with T Bone Burnett, Allison Krauss and recording with Jack White. I really dug their set.

i like nickel creek. Some of the tightest harmonies around.

                          • I had a friend post this video on facebook today.

This was the first concert I ever attended. The Benicia Youth Center was my second home growing up. I went there every day after school and I was there from the second they opened to the second they closed in the summer.

                            • Just spotted this thread.

Paul Revere and the Raiders, Air Supply, Beach Boys several times (Lagoon), Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Kingston Trio,Bruce Springsteen. I enjoyed those.

Ones I have gone to because some woman wanted to I didn't care for. Elton John, Rolling Stones, Hall and Oats, George Michael, The Supremes, Folgerty (forgot first name).

                              • We cashed in our one live show/year tickets last to see Interpol around the Boulevard Pool at the Cosmopolitan. Cool venue. Band sounded great, even though they barely played for an hour. A lot more people there than I expected. A friend hooked us up with VIP status, so we were able to get upstairs on the balcony with a lot fewer people. My wife made me pretty nervous when she walked off with my credit card to "look into getting one of those couches." Fortunately, even she thought that $700 was a bit steep for a couple of non drinkers. I think she was feeling pretty confident after successfully bribing the valet that they'd be able to find room for one more car...well...mid-sized van for a high roller tier $7 cash.
