    1. Long Shadow - Rise of the American Far Right. This podcast starts at the end of the KKK and the Civil Rights movement and traces the remains of the white supremacy movement through the militia movement of the 80s and 90s, to Timothy McVeigh, to the rancher rebellions (e.g., the Bundys and others), to the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, to the rise of Donald Trump and finally Jan. 6. Really interesting to see the thread that connects them all.
I'll have to give this a listen. Sounds a little like a book I read recently (maybe a year ago?) called Jesus and John Wayne which details the rise of evangelism (and white supremacy) within the Republican party and that corrupted both the GOP and Christianity and led us to a place where Trump is somehow the face of the conservative Christian right. It was an interesting read.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

      I think you'll like it.

Oh, I forgot, the podcast really starts with Waco, with a little lead in from the old KKK.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

      • Last week's This American Life is a rerun from a few years ago, and I vaguely remember one story. No matter, most of it was new to me, and I found it moving. Three stories, one funny, one sobering, and one very touching. It comes with my highest recommendation:

"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

            • Anyone else listen to Pod Save America? Really fun podcast on topical political issues. The hosts are democrats (some worked for Obama), but it doesn't seem overly partisan to me for some reason - not in a bad way anyway. Very witty and insightful.

Al Franken's podcast is a pleasant listen. And that's one you think would be over the top partisan but is pretty frustratingly even-handed. I really like Franken.

                • I've been listening to episodes of Bonanas for Bonanza lately. Andy Daly is really damn funny. I love the Dalton Wilcox character. He makes a good team with Matt Gourley and Maria Bamford.

It does get a little repetitive.

                    • This podcast with Lex Fridman and Annie Jacobson was pretty stunning. If you're interested in the dynamics, structures, process and devastating potential of nuclear war it's worth checking out.

                      • How Did This Get Made is really fantastic. I'd suggest starting with the episodes on the Fast and the Furious series.

Another interview with Annie Jacobsen, this time with Shawn Ryan. Highly recommend. She's really knowledgable, thoughtful and impressive.

                            • How Did this Get Made Doing a virtual live show on September 6. It is pay whatever you want. They are doing one of the all time greats, Troll 2. You would think this wonderful movie would have twice the trolls as Troll, but it has actually zero trolls in it.

I watched a documentary once on the making of Troll 2. It was wild.
