I've been really enjoying 'The History of Rock Music in 500 songs", to the exclusion of most of my other regulars. I'm only 14 episodes in, he's been at this since 2018, and he's currently on at song #150 , but it is super interesting. I'm in the late 40's/early 50's era now. He's done a background of blues, Western swing, country, big band, jazz, and a few other genres that I've never heard of. He has some really interesting tangents that go into the personal lives of the singers, as well as the politics and culture of the era. He's British, so he sounds very authoritative.

Smartless is a fantastic pod w Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes. Amazing guests- (Radiohead, Jack Black, etc.,) but I could listen to those three just banter absent the guests.

I enjoy them on Saturday morning hikes. I especially liked the interview with James Boroughs (he of Cheers, Taxi, Frasier, Friends, Will & Grace, etc.). The hosts are very quick-witted, lots o' fun.

Smartless is great. The episode with Justin Theroux is a lot of fun. Although I confess that sometimes I'd rather just listen to the hosts.

My takeaway from the OG podcast was that he is guilty.

It's been a while, but IIRC, the one thing that I couldn't escape was the testimony of Jay. Why would he testify that he saw and helped bury the body? It certainly felt like the cops were able to use threat of prosecution to flip Jay against Adnan.

Today's Smartless episode is definitely worth a listen. Not only were the three hosts together in the same room for a change, they were joined in the studio by their guest, Joe Biden. It was very entertaining, even enlightening in certain respects. Although it didn't alter much my views on Biden as a person (good) and as a policy maker (not as good), it very strongly confirmed the guy is still very sharp. Uncle Ted can spare me the usual memes of Biden's verbal faux pas (and they are legion), but those are mainly of a type similar to my calling my kids by the wrong names, the kind of error that increases with age. But those have little to do with a person's mental acuity. If you genuinely think Biden is suffering from dementia, listen in--he's still okay!

Although I confess that sometimes I'd rather just listen to the hosts.

They are a top 10 podcast so they don't need notes, but this is eventually going to be a suboptimal thing if your goal is putting out an interview show. I've been listening to Smartless since the beginning, accidentally finding it like the day episode 1 dropped and have enjoyed it immensely. Strangely my issue with show as it ages is that the hosts seem to share your sentiment. The podcast has become more interesting to me for observing the psychology of two big stars attempting to talk about other people without bringing it back to themselves and stepping on answers/stories. Shawn, whose on camera fame is behind him, ends up being the best at this but it's hidden in an "I'm so dumb" schtick. A long running joke on the show is that Shawn asks the stupidest and simplest questions, but if one is actually invested in hearing meaningfully from the guest, Shawn's simple questions often end up providing the most interesting answers.
