I like those lines, but these later in the song seem almost prophetic....

When Stephen Stills wrote those lyrics, he couldn't possibly have imagined just how much more paranoid we'd become over the next 40+ years.

It's hard to top this for opening lyrics that actually mean something, for poetry, and to grab your attention. The melody is pretty attractive too. This is one of the great underappreciated classic rock songs -- despite its fame or infamy -- probably because of the controversial subject matter.

I wouldn't expect donut to recognize the lyrics, since it has nothing to do with the 8th month of the year. Unlike the bands he seems to like.
