No Jon Snow, hardly any imp, no Robb and no boobs. Dany saved that episode at the end. Maybe the best episode to a slow start of the season, but not great when compared to some of the other episodes in previous seasons.

    • I agree that things are seeming really slow this season. Dany's scene was awesome, but it was one scene. She's the closest we've got to a protagonist these days (other than Robb Stark, I guess, but he hasn't done anything of interest in years), and she's barely in the show.

I guess the show is staying true to the feel of the books, where there are so many storylines that it's hard to care about all of them and the ones you do care about only get every 5th chapter.

I'm starting to think that GoT is mostly just exciting in theory, but even last season a lot of the episodes were kinda blah to actually watch. I wonder if it's because most of plot is in service to the grand, years-long storyline, without a lot of season- or episode-length stories to provide rewards along the way. I'm afraid that there's really only going to be opportunity for a big payoff at the very end, which is still many years away.

Admittedly, I should probably do some more research and get a better idea of what's even going on. I only have a vague idea of who is keeping Theon captive, what's going on with Arya, and who Jamie's captors are. Maybe it's all more interesting than I've noticed.

Last night's episode was really solid, IMO. Aside from the Dany scene, the scene between Tywin and Cersei was great. Varyus and Diane Rigg (Oleanna Tyrell) was great. Varyus and Tyrion, also great.

To be sure, I think the first season was the best because it was a much tighter story. I heard someone make a joke comparing Game of Thrones to Arrested Development because of the speed at which they go from scene to scene. I think, quite honestly, that they could certainly trim some fat off of the books and show -- most notably the storyline involving Theon. I don't understand why the author continues with it.

There are a lot of really great, complex characters in the books and show. So many excellent casting decisions were made -- Tyrion, the Hound, Tywin, Joffrey (Joffrey especially, that kid's awesome in the role), Arya, etc. I can't recall another series where sometimes you're rooting for a character the week after you hated them. Tywin's treatment towards Tyrion is horrible, and then you can't help but love him when he puts Cersei in her place. They've obviously devoted more time to Dany and Tyrion than Robb Stark, which makes me inclined to believe that in the end they're the two that most people will root for. Perhaps the story involving Jon Snow will become more engaging like that involving Dany so he'll be the third protagonist.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I'm going to have to disagree. I find almost every episode pretty exciting. I think the attention to detail and nuance is amazing in this show. I have gone back to rewatch the show from the beginning again, and it is amazing how many important things were happening that I totally missed. It is easier to pick up on things the second time through, and it is making my enjoyment of the things I haven't seen yet better. I love the way the intricate story they are telling. It would lose a lot if they cut out certain characters or story lines, in my opinion. Everyone seemed to love Blackwater last year because it only focused on King's Landing for the entire hour, but for me, while I really liked the episode, I kept wondering what was happening to all the other characters and I missed not being able to catch up with them.

There are a few characters that I could care less about (almost everything related to Stanis), but for the most part I find it all fascinating.

The next episode should please you.

            • Dany channeling William Wallace for the most badass scene of the season! :rockon1:

I never thought I'd like Jaime Lannister, but I'm kind of liking Jaime Lannister. He and the ginormous chick have been my favorite storyline so far this season.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

It is really odd to start liking him. The same thing happens in the books.

                • We need to kick Funk and SoCal out of this thread. Didn't you guys already start a thread for the books?

Okay, I hope the next episode doesn't please you.

Was that what you were expecting? It was okay. The ending was great with Tywin and his kids. And yay for John Snow. They seemed to be introducing some people. I am guessing Grey Worm will be a character of some import as well as the Boltons whom Jaime was delivered to. What is up with the Lord of Light cult? Do the old gods, new gods, lord of light ever get discussed or explained?

You were lamenting the lack of Jon Snow and of boobs. You got Jon Snow and boobs at the same time!

In the books the religions are explained quite a bit. The show has definitely had to cut a good portion of the explanation of the religions.

                          • The GoT series is setting a new standard for gratuitous sex and nudity. The dungeon scene in this last episode was ridiculously cheesy. It's a real shame because with the story and production quality, they don't need dumb gimmicks like that.

Season Three is getting a "meh" from me thus far.

Agreed. I am reminded often of the SNL GoT skit.
