Should I jump to book 2 or just keep going with 1?

I think I read before watching, so I really can't say or remember at this point. I enjoyed the books more than the show.

Episode 3:9. Holy crap, I did not see the Starks going down like that.

Just finished the series. Before watching, I had been told that the series had a dropoff after the first few seasons. I found the opposite to be true. I didn't love the first few seasons, but liked them well enough to push through.

Season 5 onward, I really loved the show.

Re: the ending, I know some people feel like having the dragon destroy King's landing was too obvious or poor writing, but I think I disagree. If you don't level the capital and the throne, I don't think you get any reform. The game simply marches on.

A few highlights for me:

Although I didn't love the Red Wedding, I was fully surprised by it. A wedding was strolling along and then pregnant ladies and kings are stabbed and lady stark gets her throat slashed.

Battle of the Bastards was epic.

Little finger's demise may have been the most satisfying scene in the whole movie for me. The guy nailed his character.

I was sad at Lord Verys' death. Gotta love a guy who loses all that is dear, and it able to rise above it for subjectively noble purposes.

Jon Snow was an easy guy to like. I was bummed when he turned out to be a Targaryan. I was even more bummed that he was in love with his aunt.
