hmm. Actually, I don't really listen to the radio, so maybe that comment was a bit hasty. I just can't think of a pop hit other than maybe "starlight."

It all depends on how you define "hurt", I guess. Hurt as in, people don't know how good they really are (I put Weezer in this category)? Hurt fiscally (i.e. album sales...how do you verify?)? Hurt in longevity?

Others listed several insanely successful bands (Kings of Leon, Dire Straits, Killers,) that (a) had radio time with certain songs but (b) the poster liked their other music. I stated mine.

I did a double-take on that one as well given Muse's ubiquitous presence on the radio, but I get what Commando was saying. Coldplay, The Killers and The Kings of Leon had all had #1, smash level hits. I don't think Muse ever has, despite getting a lot of radio play.

And speaking of which, I finally heard the song Dan was talking about when I made fun of him for saying Muse sounded like Depeche Mode. I didn't listen to their most recent album, but when I heard that song on the radio, I knew it was the one he was talking about. It couldn't sound more like Depeche Mode if it was a cover.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Plenty of people knew how good the blue album was. They didn't exactly hold back their best songs for b-sides on the blue album: Buddy Holly, Say it Ain't So, and Undone are all kickass. Hell, even Pitchfork still covers Weezer releases on the strength of that album. I digress- start a Weezer thread, threadjacker.

I think the point of the thread was pretty clearly defined by the first post. Indy was talking about songs you heard on the radio that made you think you weren't going to like a band, but when you went beyond those songs you did in fact like that band.

Thus, I see/saw no connection between your comment and the thread. Unless your point was you heard Buddy Holly on the radio and didn't think you'd like them based on that, but when you heard Blue you actually did. But I don't think that was your point.

Fa Fa Fa - Guster. I hated that song, but I really liked the rest of the album.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Also "Suddenly I See" was everywhere for a while (lots of commercials).

Most have not heard the songs of hers I love like "Other Side of the World" and "Heal Over."
KT Tunstall and her Big Black Horse song were wildly popular here in the Bay Area before the song was done on the Idol show. I have heard a few other songs by her on the radio too. Was that only a local thing?
                  PLesa excuse the tpyos.

No "we" haven't. VH1 doesn't even mention Pinkerton when talking about Weezer or 90s nostalgia programming . Until I hear B-list celebrities and aging pop stars talking about its brilliance I will consider it underrated.

Funny you mention that. Last year in every casino we went in during the MWC (dinners and shows, no gambling) we heard that song multiple times. It became the running joke with use wagering how long we'd have to wait to hear the tell-tale opening stanza.

This is exactly what went wrong with KofL, they wanted to be U2. Only one band can be U2.

I think in a lot of ways RH is bigger than U2. I mean, even U2 still tours.
