You'd be wrong no matter what you threw up there. There is no drummer alive on the planet that is as skilled and versatile. The dude's ridiculous.

I think he has guested with the Buddy Rich Orchestra on several occasions. Sometimes I think that's where his heart is.

Peart realized years ago that jazz was the one form of drumming he hadn't mastered. He studied and practiced his ass off, got comfortable with the traditional grip, and became a great jazz drummer. Honestly it wasn't that hard for him as all the tools were in his bag and he could play in any time signature imaginable.

What great jazz albums did he play on? More importantly what are some examples of great jazz shows has he played.

Technical proficiency doesn't mean shit, if he can't play in a band setting.

I already linked an example of this earlier in the thread.

Good entry on Rush in the AV Club's "Gateway to Geekery" series today: http://www.avclub.com/articles/an-in...d-in-t,101005/
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Nice write-up, although it's a mistake to pick Permanent Waves over Moving Pictures. MP is widely conceded to be the best Rush album and sometimes the popular answer is the right one.

The most underrated album for me is Caress of Steel. I actually like it more than 2112 but I recognize I'm on my own with that pick.

It's a tie for me between Caress of Steel and Vapor Trails for worst Rush album ever.

Caress of Steel with Vapor Trails, second worst.

Clockwork Angels is easily their best album in the last 25 years. If you whittled it down to the 40-45 minute, 5 to 8 track albums they used to produce, it stands up well against all but a small handful of previous albums.

What you mean the Buddy Rich tribute show that he organized and played? He put together some of the best drumming talent on earth for the gig and he is still the top dog. There's a CD of the event. Also there's video all over the place of him playing jazz with Buddy Rich's own band as well as other combos. If you go to a Rush show and watch his drum solo you will see that he switches from the matched grip to the traditional grip. When he does this the jazz riffs start to flow.

I really wanted to go to that concert. Stuck out here in Virginia messed that up.

There's no question in my mind that Neil Peart is the best drummer alive today.

Well if the video that Indy Coug linked is any indication of what he brings to a jazz band, I'm not missing anything. I don't need to listen to a guy trying to prove his chops and not caring that the music is boring.

Actually you're missing a lot by only looking at that video.
