Like all the other women of CUF, I am obsessed with this series, no matter how late I am to the party. I just bought Series 2 and hope that it comes by the weekend.
My brit friends always kid me on how yanks sound so old fashioned. While they've moved on to shortening words from sec-ree-tare-eee to secr'tree, I noticed that the 1909 maid says it american style sec-ree-tare-eee.

My wife bought both seasons at once and we finished the second one a couple of weeks ago. They are terrific. (Wife and daughter are planning to watch the entire two seasons again. I may join them.) One tip: stay away from this thread until you've watched them all, so as to avoid unintentional spoilers. That worked for me.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostLike all the other women of CUF, I am obsessed with this series, no matter how late I am to the party. After an episode of Masterpiece, they always air the "Buy this DVD now". And I always say "Don't need to, I just watched it". Turns out your wife listens to them. I appreciate her supporting PBS, so I can continue to have excellent programming for free.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostMy wife bought both seasons at once and we finished the second one a couple of weeks ago. LOL. We didn't know about the series until both seasons had ended. We do not regret the purchase.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostAfter an episode of Masterpiece, they always air the "Buy this DVD now". And I always say "Don't need to, I just watched it". Breaking Bad finishes up, Downton Abbey starts. Then there's Justified in January. When that finishes we have Mad Men and Game of Thrones. When's the third batch of Sherlocks start?
I never got into Homeland.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

S3E1 was smashing. Favorite exchange (speaking to Cora about her mother coming over from the States for the wedding):
Dowager: "I'm so looking forward to meeting your mother again. When I’m with her, I’m reminded of the virtues of the English."
Matthew: "But isn't she American?"
Dowager: "Exactly.""There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
"It's no secret that the great American pastime is no longer baseball. Now it's sanctimony." -- Guy Periwinkle, The Nix.
