Kinda shocked to find nobody talking about Severance. Anyone else watching? So good. Picture Lost and Black Mirror with some quality comedic moments interspersed. Adam Scott stars but you'll also know John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette with some very talented others.

Spoiler free gist: Time unknown but there seem to be tech hints. A large corporation has a division that requires its workers to undergo a procedure called "severance" in which a brain implant makes access to their memory dependent on place. This surgery is said to be irreversible. When at work they only know their work self. They understand that they have an outside life (they call this version of themselves their "outtie") but they have no idea who they are or what they do outside of work. When they get in the elevator to leave there is technology that interacts with their implant and they lose all memory of their work self, knowing only that they do work for the corporation. They have no idea what they do there or who they work with. It is brilliantly written (I think by multiple writers) and is directed by Ben Stiller. Highly recommended. There are 5 episodes available with new episodes dropping each Friday (but they've been leaking them late Thursday because buzz is building fast).

Just started Succession last night on HBO. I am hooked already.

I saw a trailer for it - looked interesting.

I do wish that I had just waited until the season is done though, so good choice to wait on it.

I do hope that it doesn't go the way of Schmigadoon.

Knock it off. Schmigadoon was awesome.

I'm trying to convince my wife to start this, but she isn't biting yet. I'll tell her another fake internet friend recommends it.

My wife is all in. It's definitely not a dude-centric show though my synopsis mentioned mostly men. There's a co-lead played by Britt Lower (I'd never heard of her or seen her before) who is fantastic.

If the past couple weeks are any indication the new episode of Severance should drop tonight instead of the scheduled Friday release. That will make 6 episodes available for immediate viewing which is a good number to justify starting now. I need to talk to people about this show, so please, get on it.

Wife still not interested, but she is leaving next week for a friend trip. I will start streaming then!

I thought it was a movie. Whoops. I plan on starting it soon.

There is a horror movie called Severance. That's not the droid you're looking for. Don't ask me how I know.

OK I'm hooked. I watched the first 2 episodes last night. Original story and some really good pacing, especially the first episode. Some really interesting characters, especially Milchick. And, any series with this guy is OK in my book:

                            Already I have questions:

                            Spoiler for plot question:
At the end of episode 2 we see Cobel looking at Mark's condo while he is helping Petey rest for the night. Does she really have a severed existence, or is she spying on Mark?

She does not appear to be severed based on later clues, but I don't want to give too much away.

I'm curious what theories have come to your mind as to why many un-severed people on the outside seem so childlike. It makes complete sense to me that the severed workers could be simple, but it appears that something has happened in the outside world as well. The "intellectuals" at the non-food dinner (how funny was that?) were so basic. On the outside, Mark and his sister seem twice as bright as everyone else. There's a dystopian feel to everything, inside and out, that I just love and it's sprinkled with a hint of dread that becomes more tangible with each episode. This really is the water cooler show that everyone should be talking about.
