Still only a 3.5 inch screen, no LTE, still fixed memory, and still overpriced in comparison to what you can get for an Android phone with better specs. I'll go ahead and pass.

      Are these prices across carrier?

The "old" iPhone 4s will likely be blown out the doors in a fire sale. Good time for my wife to get a new phone.

I'm glad I didn't wait five more months for this. Droid will continue gobbling up the majority of the market share for new users and users defecting from their Blackberries. Apple will hold steady.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Really what was the hold up with this phone. It was basically slapping a dual core processor into the iPhone 4 and a higher MP camera. I have no clue why this took so long to get released. The phone is kind of a joke in comparison to the Galaxy S II phones.

I think they are across carrier (Apple has always been rigid with its pricing).

There was a graphic during the press conference that showed that the 16GB iPhone 4 would remain at $199. Perhaps they meant $99, because the 3GS was shown next to it for $49.

Does Samsung have a dual core phone with 4G? They didn't for Verizon when I was in the market for a phone. The Droid Bionic is Verizon's first dual core 4G phone.

Even though I didn't personally get a 4G phone and I had a couple models available when I was shopping, that was because 4G isn't available yet where I live. But for those that do live in 4G areas, I can't see why they would buy this iPhone unless they're an applephile.

I understand that Apple wants to be uncompromising as it relates to quality and they're concerned about the battery power. I guess with introducing the phone on Sprint, their market share will grow somewhat but this overall is not going to take much of any bite out of Droid's momentum.

Why did Apple delay this to the Fall? Are they going to introduce a 4G phone next summer or will they wait a full year? How long has the EVO been out? Is Apple going to be two and a half years late to 4G?

I also don't have a 4G phone. It isn't a huge deal to me at this point, but if I was committing to a new phone right now (especially if I was paying $200), I wouldn't be willing to buy a phone without 4G.

I paid nothing for a phone last October and got a phone with equal specs, and in some ways better, to the iPhone 4 that is $99 right now. Apple's phones are overpriced and I'm not sure what you are getting with the extra $100 - $200 you are paying.

You're only talking about preexisting iPhone users. New users are adopting smartphones at a rapid pace and Blackberry is shedding a ton. 56% of new smartphones being sold are Droid and Droid has about a 43% market share. Apple has a 28% share of new smartphones and a 28% overall market share.

this is disappointing. I am due for an upgrade to my POS 3G. I would think about switching to a 4G droid but my whole family is invested in apple products and their apps. Our family has:

                      1 Ipad2
                      2 iphone 4
                      1 Iphone 3g
                      2 ipod touch
                      1 mac

We have invested in soooooo many apps and we all share access to these apps on our devices. If I break away from apple I have to start from scratch here which I really don't want to do.

I'm still trying to figure out why Apple didn't introduce this back in June or July, whenever they normally come out with their yearly iteration of the iPhone. Did the iPad2 take up their supply of the dual-core chip -- it is the same processor right?

Supply issues could make sense especially with them suing their major supplier.

Apparently its not the exact same chip.
