Yeah, I did that. Still nothing. I've downloaded the Windows iCloud and installed also. Still, no luck. So far, two thumbs down on this update and the iCloud.

So...after the update SNAFU (which happened to try and stop jailbreakers), does it have the functions that are deal breakers for me:

        1. Custom email notification sounds based upon sender
        2. Notification time management (meaning, can I turn off my notifications automatically based upon the time of day)

Crap, as I write my must have list, I realize there is too much I love that they will never offer:

        1. Bluetooth Internet hotspot
        2. Custom headphone button functions
        3. Multiple folders in folders, plus folder size (I have over 300 apps sorted into two pages)
        4. Unlimited dock placement of apps (crunched together custom)
        5. Screen gestures to perform tasks, such as open specific apps or clear the apps/memory.
        6. Routing of all outbound text messages through Google Voice, regardless of app used (saves me $28 a month)
        7. Display of cover art from third party apps on the lock screen.

        I don't think I'll update...

I can't turn my phone off at night, since I'm kind of on-call 24/7. I don't want ANY notifications in the middle of the night except new voicemail and incoming calls. And, I don't want to have to remember to do this every night for every notification method. I need something that automatically does this for me at 10PM and turns them back on at 7AM. I don't want to be awakened by the many notifications I get. How I wish I could just turn off my phone.

No, I meant how can they be deal breakers if you already have a iPad but cannot perform these functions. I thought you have one.

                Odd.

Do you have an early backup from which you can do a restore via iTunes?

For some reason it wouldn't restore. I did a backup before upgrading. I've got everything back now, but I had to manually do it. Kind of a PITA, but not a huge deal. I'm not seeing any benefit of iCloud right now. Maybe I've got a setting wrong, but I don't see how this is useful. I ordered the 4S, so maybe it will be more useful once I've added that to the cloud.

From running this thing through myself, it was a three step process. Once the iOS 5 was installed the ipad began a "restoring iPad Backup" process. once that was complete, it looked like it was done on the iPad except that it was still spinning in iTunes. I waited a few seconds and "restoring iPad Apps" started up. Once that was complete "restoring music and videos" started and took a while to finish. After that the full restore had taken place.

So my question CJF, did you stop the process mid restore?

The advantage is that your backups are done to the cloud and not to your local computer. Safer and more reliable (in theory). You can also sync things with your laptop over wifi if you like. No more USB tethering required.

It took quite a while for me. Maybe an hour or more.

I'm now running iOS5. I started the update and then went to bed. Woke up this morning and it was all done except for the little setup part. The only issue I'm having is by backup to the cloud isn't working.

Deal breakers to upgrade to iOS 5. I'm jailbroken, so I can perform these tasks that i listed.

I did he upgrade yesterday and it took about ten or fifteen minutes to do the downloads and about ten minutes for me to stop freaking out and realize all my music would show up if I rebooted the computer.

I have yet to notice any big advantages but it is early. I am annoyed that all my app grouos disappeared meaning I have to reorganize all of them and rebuild my folders from scratch. Also, my NYT icon is huge and won't line up with the other icons and won't let me drop it on the newsstand.
                              PLesa excuse the tpyos.

So the Cloud is nice for the iPhone. Everything loading without being plugged in. Very nice.
