Totally agree. Melody can be the least interesting and predictable part of music. I mean, I love a good melody as much as the next person, but there are a whole pile of things I find interesting about music that aren't defined by melody (atmosphere, texture, rhythm, groove, sound, noise, tone, etc.).

But I get that for some people melody is a huge deal. It's just not for me and sometimes I don't understand why people put such a limited defintion on music.

As for Radiohead, they have piles of great melodies, but there are definitely times when they've deliberately foregone melody in favor of other aspects. I love those experiments as much as I do their more melodic ventures.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I remember Radiohead from the outset-- from the time they appeared on Arsenio and performed Creep-- but didn't get into them until my melancholy college days... some 4 years before law school.

No brothers, but I did have a depressed friend who egged me on.

Radiohead is a rock band that I could enjoy even in my heaviest of jazz snob days. For the record, I first listened to Radiohead when Kid A came out and was not in law school, had no aspirations to go to law school, and didn't know anyone in law school.
So Radiohead plays a trumpet in a rock song and fake people who pretend to like jazz think they're cool. Not impressed.

That seems like a pretty low blow.

I should have put a smiley. Sorry I was channeling Holden Caulfield there. I really wasn't being serious.

I love Radiohead, even though there isn't a law school that would let me answer their phones, more or less admit me as a student.

I got "In Rainbows" from the library, loved it, checked out their older stuff, loved that as well (especially "Amnesiac" and "OK Computer").

I first heard Radiohead like everyone else when Creep gained massive air play in 1993. I must have been in 9th grade. I, like everyone else, really liked the song, but I didn't buy Pablo Honey.
I actually bought PH in junior high. So you can see why I didn't follow them after that.

Is there any song ever that went from sounding so awesome to so ridiculous faster? The opening is so cool, but by the time you hit the chorus it is so bad.
