There are multiple campaigns running concurrently-- like a choose your own adventure.

Bought a copy for my son for Christmas. My wife got up at 5 am in the morning a few days later and he was sitting there playing it. Had been up all night.

Same here, I think I've got about 80 hours into the game.

I got in a big hurry to get started and am just now, over 20 hours in, learning crucial information about the game that would have been nice to know when I started Information such as how to add Perks. I thought you collected those or that they were somehow added later in the game. Turns out you can start out adding them when you first cash in your attributes! Here I was just pouring stars into Strength, Intelligence and Luck when I could have had Gunslinger, Armorer, Gun Nut, Commando, Scrounge, Life Giver, Toughness etc beefed up.

                  • My son also got Fallout 4 for Christmas. We upgraded to Xbox One this year. I bought a couple of other games, but Fallout is by far the most popular. I haven't tried it yet; I'm pretty bad at those types of games and I'm content watching him play for a bit. Meanwhile, I'm at 22% at Ori: The Blind Forest!

                      • I got into the settlement building portion of the game this weekend. Man, that's a vortex of hours and hours lost time for OCD people like me. Strangely, very satisfying, though, nonetheless.

                        • So I am OCDing on which Perk to add next. I added Armorer and Rifleman yesterday- (since most of my weapons are single shot rifles and a 20% bonus is better than any upgrade you can add in the weapons workshop). I was thinking of maybe focusing on Toughness and Life Giver for the same principle. I am thinking I need to add Scrounger soon (since I have frequently been finding myself pretty spare on ammo in the thick of a bunch of Super Mutants) and might get Gun Nut up to Level 3 so I can fully pimp out most of my arsenal.

I also added Science! and it has already paid dividends in gun building and setting up turrets and generators in the settlements. Highly recommended. Since I discovered the joys and effectiveness of Melee attacks in defeating a fortress of flame thrower guys with a serrated machete, I am really weighing cashing in for Big Leagues, too. I added one Hacker, but I'm not sure how many dividends it's going to pay. Also, not too keen on lock picking. Sure, it'd come in handy once in a while, but am I really missing out on tons of goodies? I can't imagine that I am.

Perks I am curious about: Inspirational- I roll w Cogsworth and he does damage to the mutants. I wish he could do more. Awareness: I know it's obvious that you shoot most dudes in the face and that's pretty effective, but sometimes if you notice a mutant is favoring an arm and you blow it off it will kill him or seriously hobble him. I wonder how much more effective combat would be w this Perk. Blitz: Sounds absolutely amazing, but sadly I don't think my Agility will ever be at a 9.

                          • So I'm pretty leveled up now... like at 40 and I have full lock picking and hacking abilities(a big time time saver-- grants a lot of shortcuts and ammo refills), a lot of Rifleman (one star from full), maxed Armorer just going on advice from others (even though I still wear the minutemen general uni), Gun Nut up to 3, Scrounger one star from full, and I'm pretty sure I just basically wandered in the desert for 40 years leveling up because I wasn't focused on the right tasks. I just barely did the Nick Valentine and it now seems like the story is starting to go somewhere. Before that I was just rescuing hostage after hostage and clearing venue after venue for XP points. I know I should have been a lot further along in the story bc by the time I got to Kellogg Nick Valentine almost killed him by himself and I only had to fire like twice. Oh well. I have a combat rifle with exploding rounds that is so sharp-- I kill deathclaws in like 5 shots. I am thinking I may wrap this game up in the next couple of weeks or so.
