  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution is out tomorrow, and it looks the business. Getting outstanding reviews thus far. Attended a panel of this game at PAX East and was blown away. I was on my mission when the first one came out in 2000. Love the cyberpunk setting and the music is awesome. Anyone else picking this up?

Sorry Falafel, I missed this post I guess. I'll try to see if I can dig up the receipt for the trade in. It was about 12-15 games. It was much more than what amazon was offering.

      • Oh yeah Deus Ex HR. I've been hoping that it would live up to the Deus Ex legacy and it sounds like it has. I'm looking forward to playing this one.

        • For anyone who cares: Deus Ex Human Revolution is fantastic, and I highly recommend everyone purchase and play it. It is kinda like a mix between Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell. Lots of people have told me it is heavily influenced by Metal Gear as well, but I never played any of the Metal Gear games.

The game will take you 30-45 hours to complete and has a really cool conspiracy-based story set in a very complex and layered world. My 2nd favorite game released this year closely trailing Dead Space 2.

          • For those who have never played it. Portal is Free to buy on Steam (PC/Mac) this weekend. Go and get it. One of my favorite games. http://store.steampowered.com/app/400/

                • I've now played Portal and Portal 2. Both were great games. I just wish I knew someone to play the co-op of Portal 2 with.

                  • Reviews are very good to great for Dark Souls, not that someone intent on playing the game would need a review to convince them. It's nice, however, that it's getting the recognition I feel it deserves.

                    This review was my favorite:

                    http://www.next-gen.biz/reviews/dark-souls-review

The only exception was a 70 given by a swedish review site citing "endless frustration"

I also suggest watching this hour and a half "quick look" by Giantbomb which is very entertaining and includes swears.

The reviews that I have read on the game make me never want to play it. I'm all for tough games. I loved Jet Grind Radio and it was a really challenging game, but this game just sounds like the difficulty destroys all the fun. Plus, with a 2 1/2 month old around the house, I really cannot play a game that doesn't allow you to pause.

I haven't played the game yet but, if it is anything like it's spiritual predecessor Demon's souls, (after having looked at videos and reviews it is nearly identical with significant improvements) it is not for the mainstream crowd. That's for sure. It's made with a specific, singular vision in mind, and never strays from that. The difficulty requires that you focus and meticulously traverse the environments while patiently dispatching enemies in manageable amounts.

It's not for everybody, but it's a extremely well-made game that is also an incredible experience. I'd suggest a rental to try it out. you might love it, you might hate it.

You could also take a look at Giant Bomb's quick look, that will give you a good idea of what the game is like.

                        • So I've finally given Fallout 3 a bit more a chance. I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. It just took some time to get into it and get used to the wide open gameplay.

I noticed that RedBox is renting Dark Souls. It may be worth 2 bucks to try it and see if it is just frustrating or actually fun.
