I'm not all that surprised, to tell you the truth, because it's hardly the feel-good movie of the summer. A plot filled with
    Spoiler for plot details:
graphic sexual torture, rape, murder, incest, child abuse and - for the "normal" sexual practices, general sexual nihilism
    isn't exactly a pick-me-up.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Also, it bugged me that the Roma didnt speak Romanian. I met a female gypsy in Paris and she spoke both interchangeably.
Aren't Romanian and Romani different things?

Not all gypsies speak Romani, do they?

I'm sure Clooney wanted that role -- it's a great role and he loves Payne. I saw an interview the other day where he said he basically begged Payne to make more movies.

EW did a recent article comparing Clooney's career metamorphosis to that of Paul Newman.

It's kind of amazing that Clooney got his big break on "Facts of Life".

        • We watched "The Great Debaters" with our kids on Christmas night. Great story, Denzel Washington shows his acting chops.

It's 3:52 a.m. and we just pulled into St. George. Nice to see two other CUFers are posting at this hour.

I loved it. Wysocki did a marvelous job as the lead character. Everyone portrayed was treated humanely, which is unique considering the subject matter.

It's a Finnish film and was entertaining, nothing too deep, but a fun popcorn flick.

I saw the movie yesterday. Some of the scenes were pretty intense. But I thought the movie was really well done. I loved reading the books and I felt like this film did a very good job of bringing the book to life. . . maybe too well for some of the scenes.

                • There was a movie poster that featured a topless Rooney Mara. I wonder how the Steelers and Giants organizations feel about that. I know that is a prized role, even career-making, but topless on a movie poster? Couldn't they have done without that?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I'd much rather see sister Kate topless.

                      • I joined the world of Netflix this week and watched "SLC Punk" last night. I'm looking forward to wasting more time watching stupid movies like this for only $7.99 a month.

                        • Saw Midnight Cowboy via Netflix stream. Interesting.

It was X rated when released, and now is an R rating.
So this was where that line "I'm walking here... I'm walking here" comes from.
                          Love that song Everybody's Talking.
Jon Voight, especially when he loses weight over the course of the movie, looks just like Angelina Jolie.
Cant believe this won an Academy Award for best picture. But, just as I am slightly contemptuous about the naivete of Giotto's technical skills in oil painting, I guess at the time John Schlessinger made the movie, this was all brand new.
Dustin Hoffman's Ratso Rizzo sounds just like his Rainman.

For those of us who are of a certain age, that song takes us right back to 1969. Harry Nilsson was considered a genius (John Lennon said Nilsson he was the greatest vocalist of that generation, or something along those lines). Every kid in my high school could sing "Me and My Arrow." Alas, alcoholism did Harry in.

When John Lennon and Paul McCartney held a press conference in 1968 to announce the formation of Apple Corps, John was asked to name his favorite American artist. He replied, "Nilsson". Paul was then asked to name his favorite American group. He replied, "Nilsson"
