Honestly, I loved the movie. It struck the right chords in that it was humorous without the slapstick, emotional but not cheesy, and the animation and music were incredible. It is one of my favorite Pixar films since I love the message.

      • We watched it last night and were disappointed. My teenage daughter said it best, “Soul lacked soul”. There was no emotional connection with any of the characters. Despite being a long movie, I felt rushed through most of it. It just fell flat for our family.

I guess that depends on how much you liked Coco?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Loved Coco for the sheer emotion and beautiful animation. It is an easy film to adore.

I loved Soul partly for the risks it took. It was imaginative and very unique in how abstract concepts were presented. But I was still very touched by its simple message.

Is this your way of saying Coco is for simpletons? That’s funny. Though I admit, Coco is an easy film to adore. Because it’s brilliant. Indeed, I submit that Coco is just as imaginative and unique as Soul, if not more so.

I may need to rewatch Coco. I liked it but thought it was kind of boring in its message and seemed like something people have hit on over and over again. But Coco was great for both the animation and it portrayed it's message beautifully. I guess Soul hit me differently, especially the part where
                    Spoiler for spoiler:
he walks out of the club after playing his dream gig and realizes he doesn't really feel all that different afterwards. He's obviously realizing that he is already in a good and fulfilling life, he's just not living it.

I guess that's what makes movies and art so great, they strike different chords. Some movies that I love, while not being great movies, have had moments that just resonate with me:
                    - Gattaca "I never saved anything for the swim back"
                    - The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
                    - Midnight in Paris "I'm from the '20s, and I'm telling you the golden age is la Belle Epoque."

                      • I watched Soul last night and wasn't moved by it. Besides the down right bad Pixar movies like The Good Dinosaur and Cars 2, the ones that resonate the least are Inside Out and this movie. These type of movies are just not a good fit for Pixar, its style.

Seems to me that Pixar is losing its great creativity that is started out with. It was bound to happen. The only good original movie (non-sequel) of the last decade was Coco.

Its a fine movie. As I said previously, even an average Pixar movie is better than most other movies.

                              • I loved Soul and thought it was brilliant in all the ways people have mentioned. I ALSO loved that I wasn't a blubbering mess by the end of it.

Coco is so amazing, but is there some team of sadists at Pixar that insist on emotionally ruining the audience?
