Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Have you looked through the list of movies that year, really not a very good year.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI watched the Departed. Finished it because I promised my son I would. Last film I watched at his insistence, There Will be Blood, I loved. The Departed was just terrible. Sad to see all those tropes from old gangster films I loved so shabby and poorly used. And it won best picture? Worst best picture ever except Braveheart.

YI agree and saw a review where they called this a “hang out movie” rather than a plot-driven movie.Originally posted by Commando View Post
Much like Pulp Fiction, you're not quite sure what the point of the entire plot is, but then that's not the point here. I'd see it again in the theatre without too much compunction.
You just hang out with the characters portrayed by Brad Pitt and Leo and Margot Robbie and don’t worry about where the story is headed. It’s 2+ hours of just hanging out with the characters and soaking up the ambience of late 1960s Hollywood, followed by a payoff of action at the end.
I still think they could have edited out 30 minutes of it but it was solid — loved the scene at the Spahn Movie Ranch. That was so good.

Some good stuff came out that year: Pan's Labrynth, Little Miss Sunshine, The Last King of Scotland, V For Vendetta, The Illusionist and The Lives of Others were all enjoyable to excellent.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostHave you looked through the list of movies that year, really not a very good year.

I think it is a great movie except the very end when the rat walk out. The rat was just too far for me, but up until then i thought it was fantastic. I liked Nicholson too, although he was a bit over the top at times, but he's Jack, after all.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostDeparted is a solid B+ or A- Sadly the only reason it wasn’t a solid A was because of Nicholson. He was too over the top. Great movie with an excellent ending :condom:PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Thank you. I wasn't going to add to the conversation, but that last scene was verrrrrry lame. Enough to bump it down to a 'B'.Originally posted by creekster View PostI think it is a great movie except the very end when the rat walk out. QT does this thing with suspense where he can make you just spin in your seat in dread. I think he abused those powers in The Hateful 8, but Inglorious Basterds greatly benefitted from it in several scenes. Same thing here-- I was blindsided by the suspense in that Spahn Ranch scene.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View Post— loved the scene at the Spahn Movie Ranch.
