Just looking for a movie to watch and decided on "John Wick: Chapter 2" since it got 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Neither my wife or I had seen the first one so we didn't know what to expect. We both hated it, wish we had left half way through it. He must kill at least a hundred guys but of course they can never seem to kill him, it's ridiculous.

Yeah...so exactly like the first. Your fault for not doing your homework.

Now I can't wait to go and see this one.

Saw it today for my youngest's birthday. Will Arnett is probably the second best Batman.

The first one is better. In that one, he still kills everyone and no-one can kill him. But it's paced better.

I still liked chapter 2, though the kill count is at least twice that of the first, including the gore. It doesn't bother me much, but it got a little tedious after awhile. Stunt work by Reeves is pretty solid, and his double even better! I liked the plot. I thought they could have done a lot worse. Cinematography was stylish. I give it a 'B'.

Neo looks pretty great in his 50's, but man, Morpheus has let himself go.

A Dog's Purpose:

Predictable when no surprises in terms of plot changes, but still well acted given a predetermined script. Worth watching if you enjoy having dogs as pets. Non-pet owners would not enjoy it as much.

Ladykillers
Had to see it to finish out my Coen Bros. checklist. It was Coen Brothers light. Unlike Fargo, practically all tension from the criminal plot is lost to comedy. Glad I saw it. Entertaining because the Bros. are always interesting, however, not up to their highest standards.

Split-- This movie came highly recommended. It was cool I guess. James McAvoy is great. Lacked the trademark M. Night Shayamalan twist, but that's ok too. Pretty sure this movie is a run-up to a sequel for a different movie. If that is a thing.

Lion - Very good and even quite emotional. I'd highly recommend it although it's certainly not one you have to see in the theaters. The little Indian kid was freakin' awesome in it. It is a bit long at 2 hours but I had a Coke Zero so I didn't doze off although I was getting tired in the run up to the end. It could have been 20 mins shorter and just as impactful.

Fences - Went in knowing nothing. It became immediately obvious that this is based on a play. The minimalist production and setting give way to the same qualities that you would expect in a live production at your local community theater: lengthy dialogue, genuine character interaction, and raw emotions. Denzel is unbelievably good in this story about a self-destructive father battling the demons of his own childhood, institutional racism, and infidelity. Recommended.

Keeping Up With The Joneses - Brainless, fluffy movie. Amusing enough to feel like I didn't waste my free Redbox credit. Galifianakis is great.

Lego Batman was hilarious. Very enjoyable. Dragged a little the second half, but overall great.

Lego Batman 45 minutes too damn long. But there are definitely some humorous parts.

A Dog's Purpose I went home and played with my dog for twenty minutes. Not a great film, but it does pull on some heart strings a time or two.

Il Divo - About Giulio Andreotti, an Italian politician who reigned for decades and was accused of everything under the sun, including collaborating with the cosa nostra. Saw it because it was directed by Paulo Sorrentino, who did The Great Beauty and The Young Pope. Good but frankly I was very lost most of the time. Heard it's a lot better if you bring some familiarity with Italian politics to it. Not my area of expertise. Some of the scenes were still great, as when campaigning for other pols' votes for PM. Probably not worth seeing unless you know more about Italy than me.

Hell or High Water - Late to the party on this one. Really liked it. All the actors were great. The rubbing our noses in check cashing, payday loan, etc. billboards was a bit much, and some of the scenes felt like they were from a different movie (beating the random gun-toting thug, for example), but on the whole it was pretty entertaining. Ending felt like a stretch but the final scenes were good even if far-fetched.
