Manchester by the Sea. Best film of the last couple years. I've seen complaints about how he used the score, but I loved it. The He Shall Feed His Flock was so good.

Anthropoid - Very good movie. I'd never heard this story before and it's a fascintating story but the movie does it some good justice. I liked the cinematography and thought the acting was superb. The biggest flaw seemed to be the choppy storytelling at the start. We see very little of the preparation the parachutists go through and then, all of the sudden it's go time. I'll admit that I had "Scarecrow" running through my mind at several points as well.
Saints and Soldiers Airborne Creed - Didn't fall asleep in this one. Instead, I got up and left the room to do something else because I was so bored. The first 20 minutes sucked. I don't know about the rest.
The Hunt for the Wilderpeople - Started off strong with a lot of funny lines. The story was good and well told. Seemed to drag on though. The humor kind of subsided, or maybe I just got immune to it, but it lost that magical touch. Come to think of it, now I can't even remember how it ended. Maybe I feel asleep

Silence. I agree with Variety's Peter Druge when he says, "Though undeniably gorgeous, it is punishingly long, frequently boring, and woefully unengaging at some of its most critical moments." And I am a huge Scorsese fan.
My husband was more affected by it, but then he proseletyzed there and found a lot in common with the two jesuit priests.
Tidbit: More than once, I found myself reflecting on how Adam Driver is the homeliest man I know of. I've seen a surprising number of his movies (J. Edgar, Lincoln, Inside Llewellyn Davis, Tracks, The Force Awakens, Midnight Special, and of course, Silence). He is an amazing actor and has an interesting life story. What other Marine do you know who also graduated from Julliard?Comment

'La La Land'. I enjoyed it. The whole movie until the last few minutes was fun and light-hearted. And the ending was done very well. Like others have said, Emma Stone was excellent in it. Ryan Gosling less so, but still a good effort. Solid B+.

We really enjoyed The Founder, the story behind Ray Kroc and McDonald's. I’m a little surprised Michael Keaton didn’t pick up an Oscar nomination; he’s certainly good in this one, and Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch are outstanding as the McDonald brothers. A superb, fast-paced montage features the brothers explaining to Kroc how they developed their revolutionary system (fast food!). It’s not a feel good story, because Kroc was a conniving businessman and faithless husband (the first time, anyway), but it’s a fascinating explanation of a revolutionary change in the food service industry. The movie takes some liberties with the facts and the law, but still, highly recommended. I liked it more than most of the Best Picture nominees.

If there was ever a clear indication that Hollywood has no new ideas and is an isolated, self-congratulatory little club, it is the fact that La La Land received 14 nominations. More than any really good film ever (I discount Titanic as not being really good and few people now alive have seen let alone understand why All About Eve received 14 nominations). Hollywood celebrating Hollywood in a pale imitation of itself.
