  • The Accountant. I really wanted to like this movie. But I hated it. So dumb.

I was really excited for it after seeing the previews. Wasn't so excited after seeing the entire movie.

Sorry, an action movie called the accountant? Sounds too unbelievable to watch.

          Haha.

Not only that, but the sexy James Bond/Jason Bourne accountant is autistic. I am not kidding either. Dumbest premise ever.

Well, that part is at least believable.

It wants to be like the old style musicals but falls a bit short. Indeed, if it wasn't for a dearth of such musicals in the recent past this one would not look very good at all. The ending was moving and it reminded me of some other old films, which I wont identify to avoid spoiling it.

I recommend it, and it is charming, but it is not great.
Obviously late to the party Creek, but disagree with you here. I thought the mediocre singing and dancing is part of the point. It reveals something about the nature of La La Land. Part of doing that is contrasting what they do to Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby which then reveals what La La Land represents. Sure, it's also convenient because the modern equivalent to the actors of the classic musical era don't really exist. If the movie was just an homage to the classical musical I would agree with you; but it's not. It's an homage and an explainer and critical. Liked this movie a lot.

I think your idea of the movie is more complex than the actual movie. But I am likely wrong.

I'm certainly capable of doing that.

                            • Manchester by the Sea. I liked it, but I wanted to like it more than I did. The acting is excellent. There are many sublimely acted scenes. The cinematography did a great job of representing blue-collar Massachusetts. We lived in similar circumstances, and it felt like 'home' watching it. But it just seemed a little uneven. The score was disjointed, with a lot of classical music mixed up with some pop. I think it could have been edited a little better. But maybe that's what the director was going for; real life has its peaks and valleys, and it doesn't end the way you want it.

Mrs. NWC is a sucker for angst-ridden characters, so of course she really liked it. Like PAC, I noticed the pervasive profanity. I was wondering what my wife would say after the movie was over. After all, she did walk out of 'The Grey' because of language. But she didn't say anything. Maybe her Massachusetts friend who swears like a sailor has finally inoculated her.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I have listened to a couple of the Golden Globes acceptance speeches from winners from LALA Land and I think the film really is just an homage. Not an homage with a twist, but just an homage. Just a modern musical.
