Equal. Rented from Redbox. Awful awful. I'm the biggest chick fan in the world, and this was too chickish for me. Absolutely no plot to speak of-- this was like, a mood setting. With mind numbing electronica music. I rented it because I love the actor- Nicholas Hoult. The female starring role was played by Kristin Stewart. The problem is that the movie was pretty artsy fartsy to begin with, and then the director fell in love with Stewart's beauty-- even if you cant stand her acting, her beauty is undeniable. From then on, all the movie shows are long sweeping shots of Stewart walking alone, or tight intimate shots of the curve of her brow, the cleft in her chin, her apple-like ears, her earnest widow's peak, the turn of her ankle, the length of her thigh. My family soon abandoned me to my epic chick flick, and I watched until the bitter end.

If any of you has a wife who feels that the two of you havent bonded over a chick flick lately, I recommend you rent this one. And dont say I didn't warn you.

Tremors - For some reason I love this movie. It was on some cable station while I was flipping channels on a business trip. I watched the whole thing. I spend most of my time analyzing the plight of the main characters and wondering if I could outrun those buggers. I also love the stupidity of the antagonistic ones in the bunch. Classic action film with little break in the action. Love it...and it has Kevin Bacon.

The Big Short - MJ wanted to watch it. Good movie, however the VidAngel filters even for just the F*** and S*** swear words made the film a bit choppy. It also edited out the Margot Robbie scene . Every 20 mins she'd ask me to pause the movie and explain to her what it all meant. I guess I take for granted that I understand it more than the average Joe as I work in derivatives and deal with the financial side of things, plus I come from a banking family and real estate securitization made one of my bros a bit of money back in the day. Good movie, better book but watch it without filters.

Finding Dory - Dull and boring. What a horrible mess. Did the Avengers writers write the script/plot? Very little emotion except for some really manipulated sentimentality near the end. A far cry from Finding Nemo and way off the mark for Disney/Pixar. I was severely disappointed and bored.

Tarzan - Probably the most stereotyped movie I've seen in a while. Without Margot Robbie, this film is pretty much unwatchable. I'm surprised it had such a great cast (Waltz, Jackson).

This is definitely not a typical 2016 movie. It is very well done. The music is very good, Emma Stone is, IMO, great. I don't think the movie is great, but it is quite good and entertaining.

This is definitely not a typical 2016 movie. It is very well done. The music is very good, Emma Stone is, IMO, great. I don't think the movie is great, but it is quite good and entertaining.

That's how we felt about the movie. Very enjoyable, but not the absolute best movie of the year as some critics claim. Both Stone and Gosling are very good.

And I had high hopes for Why Him? and Collateral Beauty, but the strong negative reviews will keep me away.

LA Confidential - A couple decades late on this one. Three very different cops in period LA work to solve a serious of murders. The story is both silly and very over-wrought but it's a good movie. Great actors -- Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, James Cromwell, Kim Basinger, David Straithairn.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople - 2nd time round. Re-watching shows that it did need a bit more trimming toward the end but it was still great.

The Lobster - Single folks are sent to a special hotel and given a few weeks to find a mate or they are turned into an animal of their choosing. Commentary on relationships in modern culture or something. I loved the first half, in which Collin Farrell is sent to the hotel. Second half was much weaker. Net effect was that it was merely okay in my book.

Man From Nowhere - Korean. Sad sack pawnbroker's little neighbor girl is kidnapped by absurd gangsters. Can you guess whether it turns out said pawnbroker's past involves the development of a very particular set of skills? Decent action movie but I would not seek it out.

Lil Quinquin - Strange, very dark sort-of comedy about murders in a seaside French village, as observed by Lil Quinquin, a kid who pals around town on his bike with his girlfriend and racist friends. The local cop is a mess of tics and almost totally incompetent. It aired in 4 parts in France; on Netflix it's a 3.5-hr movie. It has a few good scenes and one great scene -- a funeral full of absurd happenings -- but is not worth the time. Only Bruno Dumont movie I've seen and while he's clearly skilled it didn't leave me rushing out to see his others.

Rogue One - Thought it was a lot of fun. Much more entertaining than The Force Awakens. Apparently they altered it fairly heavily since the original trailer, and it all seems to have been for the better. I liked the ending, which seemed much more satisfying than the original ending would have been.

Don't Breathe was highly entertaining if a little improbable in a few spots.

My wife falls asleep in movies even easier than Moliere and she was totally awake the whole time despite the fact that she got up at 4 AM that morning.

The less you know about the movie when you see it the better.

We saw the trailer for that when we went to see The Shallows, and I thought it looked promising.

Finally saw this. Free rental on my flight yesterday. Really fun. Every bit as good as the trailer made it seem, which is rare for a thriller. And yes, the improbabilities were mildly annoying, but not enough to ruin the show. Really enjoyed the unexpected twist about halfway in.

I'm posting in tapatalk so I don't know how to make the spoiler tag work, but let's just say there was one scene where I was wondering if someone in a row behind me was watching my screen and what they might be thinking.

I tried to talk my wife into that one and she looked at Rotten Tomatoes and said "no". So we stayed home and watched The Intern.
