  • Saving Mr. Banks - Interesting look behind the scenes at how Mary Poppins (the movie) came to be. I didn't remember a book was the source material. Really liked the ending photos and audio during the ending credits from back in the day.

Pompeii - Ridiculous plot, ridiculous CGI, no chemistry between love interests, OK gladiator fight scenes

Blue Jasmine - Pretty cool movie. The jumps back and forth in time work really well in telling the story of her and her husband's fall from grace.

Watched "About Time" last weekend on Cable. The main character is invited into the apartment of Margot Robbie but chooses to instead pursue a relationship with Rachael McAdams. It ruined the movie for me because the plot involves time travel and the main character could have arranged to have accepted Robbie's invitation and still have gotten married to McAdams.

          There's a Chick-fil-a in Centerville? Nice!
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

The movie sounds ruined in the moment any male character chooses Rachel mcadams over Margot Robbie, even if a time machine is involved. In fact, a more realistic plot would have the male character go to Margot Robbie's apartment and then use the time machine to go back to the apartment again.

            • Snowpiercer. Mad Max On A Train. Tilda Swinton the only bright spot. Well, and Jamie Bell who for some unfathomable reason I love. Halfway through the movie my son says "Hey! That's Captain America." I had no idee. And I couldnt buy Octavia Spencer as a starving refugee. Sorry but she's not the right body type for it.

You made your son endure that turd of a movie with you? Poor kid.

I see this movie has stellar reviews. But then the crappy reviews here on CS have definitely prevented me from seeing it.

                  • Wild. Based on a nonfiction book about a woman's solo 1100 mile hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, the movie is, like the hike, a bit long and challenging, but I really enjoyed it, in part because I've done portions of the trail (I've only covered 70 miles or so, but have done it with a bunch of teenage boys so my challenges were equally daunting).

As for the movie, Reese Witherspoon's performance is very good and, like her previous role in Mud (also very good!), is a very long way from Legally Blonde. The movie is much more than a woman vs. nature story; rather, through a series of flashbacks, many involving her mother who's played by an excellent Laura Dern, we learn about what a messed up life the woman had led to that point and how the hike represented a major turning point in her life. The opening scene encapsulates her life to that point; I may mention it in a spoiler later. And I loved a moment late in the hike when a diminutive hiker she meets sings a beautiful, touching a cappella solo.

Rated R for language and Witherspoon's rack, on display during a shower scene and moments of promiscuous sex. Not for everyone but definitely thumbs up from me, even though I had problems with some of the woman's observations. Another movie to discuss around the CS cracker barrel.

Go ahead and rent it. You may not like it. But don't let JL's crusade against the movie sway you before you watch it!

I noticed it's on netflix. I think I will watch it, now that you have indeed pointed out it's JL's crusade.

There are tons of crappy reviews out there. People either love it or hate it.

I think it was actually the clip of the guy talking about what he hates most about himself that has prevented my watching this. Maybe I could see past that, but I don't know.

Was Reese doing an R-rated bend and snap in this movie? if so, i might have to check it out.

Here you go. It is funny to read the reviews. Not sure I have ever seen a movie this polarizing.
