Guardians of the Galaxy. Can one watch a two hour movie with a permagrin on the entire time? I did. I knew it was going to be super fun when they did the dance number to Redbone's Come and Get Your Love. Loved the references, and the Jackson Pollack line was genius, although I liked the "They got my dick message" and "You're gonna draw your finger across his throat?" too. Zoe Saldana looked prettier with her alien ridges than she does in real life. The guy from The Walking Dead played pretty much the same character he did on Walking Dead. I was surprised at how much I empathized with the racoon and the tree guy. Loved it.

Guardians of the Galaxy-
Now that's how a comic book movie is done. I also, non-jokingly I should add, hope they do come out with a new Howard the Duck.
Perusing the Howard the Duck wiki page, i came across a couple of interesting facts:
1. Howard the Duck was the first Marvel movie (a 1944 Capn America aside)!
2. There was some tension between Marvel and Disney back in the late 70s when the comics were originally authored, and Disney threatened to sue b/c Howard the Duck looked too much like Donald apparently. The plot thickens b/c the movie was done by Lucasfilm, which was of course just acquired by Disney, which has been killing the Marvel movies lately. I think a Howard the Duck movie could redeem the original that made studio heads roll b/c of its excessive floppiness- BECAUSE of Disney, Howard's long-time nemesis.Last edited by Commando; 08-02-2014, 07:13 PM."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I too did some research on Howard the Duck after posting yesterday and came across the following: http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/...is_marvel.htmlOriginally posted by Commando View PostGuardians of the Galaxy-

I'm really starting to warm to the idea of a Howard the Duck movie.

I liked Guardians, but it's not nearly as good as Avengers, IMO. As much as I love Pratt and Zoe and Groot and Rocket, it's not quite Downey, Jr. and Jackson and Johannsen and Hemsworth.
The writing wasn't as consistently good, and the delivery was really wooden quite often, especially from Gamora and Drax. Drax I understand, since his part was played by a professional wrestler, but I was shocked by how Saldana wasn't selling her role. She's much better in Star Trek, IMO.
Again, I love Chris Pratt, but his Star Lord feels like he's pretending to be a space pirate rather than actually being one. I was kind of disappointed. He is still hilarious.
Also, I could not take Ronin seriously with that weird face paint gunk. Not at all threatening, and sort of campy, but then again, he had moments where he was supposed to be sincerely scary and I couldn't figure out what the movie was trying to do.
Avengers is a great ride almost the entire time. Guardians has great moments, but I got bored from time to time.

I had the same reaction when I first heard about it.Originally posted by creekster View PostI just can't get past the fact that the movie has a talking raccoon as some sort of superhero. I know it's not any less plausible than, say, an Incredible Hulk, but still...
Now I love me some Rocket Raccoon. Fantastic character.

If you offer a kid on the street some candy, I bet he'd go with you.Originally posted by creekster View PostYou people are almost convincing me to see this movie. I can't believe I might pay 12 bucks to watch a talking raccoon and I won't have a child under 12 years old with me.Get confident, stupid

I am red-eyed today at work because I stayed up late watching Prisoners. I had low expectations, but wow I was pleasantly surprised. Really well done thriller."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Saw Hoffman's last film, A Most Wanted Man, in his role as a German anti-terrorist federal agent. The movie almost plods but does a lot of good things, and is very cynical. Overall, I would recommend watching it."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Just saw Boyhood. Not completely sure how I feel about it yet. It is certainly a movie everyone should see, if only because it isn't like anything you've ever seen before or will likely see again. I've heard a lot of critics say how warm of a film it is. I kind of came away with the opposite feeling. It felt a bit nihilistic and depressing to me. The performances were mixed. Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette were amazing, as was Ellar Coltrane (the star of the film) in the latter part of the movie. The other performances were a bit shakier. The dialogue was a bit stilted too. I think it is one that I'll have to see again to decide if I actually like it or not. I'm guessing many people will.
