The "last movie I saw" thread

I took my daughter to that second Hobbit film. Good hell there's a ton of bloat in the two Hobbit movies so far. The Lord of the Rings is probably around 1,500 pages or so altogether and they made three movies out of those. The Hobbit was probably around 300 pages and Peter Jackson somehow thought it was fine to make another trilogy (with three movies that are close to three hours long) out of that. I know they're incorporating a few elements of that other Tolkien book, but good freaking hell there's a lot of made up crap.

One of the strongest aspects of Lord of the Rings was how well Jackson whittled down the material and put it in a form that translated extremely well to the screen. With the Hobbit movies he's done the exact opposite. For some reason he shoehorns in Legolas with a totally pointless storyline. On top of that, Bilbo seems to only be somewhat of a side character in this. There's equal screen time given to Orlando Bloom and the guy that plays the head dwarf. They should have made four movies out of the Lord of the Rings and only two movies out of the Hobbit that were only two hours a piece.

Agree completely. Loved LOTR. Sleeping through Hobbit. There are some good scenes, but that just illustrates how they butchered it.

The film was pretty predictable, but in what is kind of a twist for the predictability of a movie like this, the dad's actions did absolutely nothing to find the daughter. He did solve the caper slightly before the police, but they also solved it and did so completely independently. I'm not even sure if the director meant this intentionally.

Watched Prisoners on DVD. 8.1 IMDB. Not that good but watchable at least.

First of all, that letter wasn't from any relative of Jordan Belfort. Some daughter of some no-name employee of his that's not even portrayed in the movie. I guess this "open letter" is a ramp-up to her memoirs which will be published later. :zzz:

I just saw Cabin in the Woods- crazy movie. I liked it. I think I would give more horror movies a chance if they were as smart and well scripted as this one instead of dull blood baths w some jump scenes scattered in as per usual.

This is the End was pretty awesome as well. Really hilarious elements that were pure genius: the Mtv-style video confessional motif and "the Exorcism of Jonah Hill" sequence that had me choking with laughter. Danny McBride was another highlight in this as well, although he plays the same character in every single movie, it is still a really funny pony trick.

Watched "Hope Springs." How in Hades did this movie get made? No really-- how? Miserable, boring movie. And how in Hell did Meryl Streep get nominated for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical"? This movie was neither a comedy nor musical. It was a cringeworthy snooze fest. If I had to watch Steve Carrell act like a concerned, earnest psychiatrist one more second, I was going to slit my throat. Please-- those of you who watched this and enjoyed it, tell me who you are so I can judge you.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty I wanted to like this movie but it didn't connect with me. Not terrible but not particularly memorable.

All of the early party scenes with Michael Cera had me in tears. The exchange between Franco and McBride regarding Franco's porno mag is one of the funniest things I can remember watching in a long time. Definitely not a movie for the entire family, but worth checking out if no topic offends you.

I agree it was a great movie. Had me laughing hard the entire time. It was stupid and ridiculous but still very funny.

My favorite part was when they were talking about Hermione and she overheard them and misunderstood the gist of the conversation.
