and I agree with Lebowski, both those dudes are dead, and so is Walter. Cars sheet metal and hell even engine blocks sometimes don't stop rounds.

So that was 80s action movie dumb.

Anyways, yea, unrealistic, but this happens in every tv series movie with guns.

It's not that the gunfight was unrealistic, it's that there was a gunfight at all. The thing that is so great about BB is that when someone gets killed, it's usually something we've never seen on TV before: the box cutter scene, Gus getting half his face blown off, Tortuga getting his head put on a tortoise, Spooge getting his head crushed by an ATM machine, people getting dissolved in acid, etc. We've all seen gunfights on TV with people hiding behind cars...it's been done to death. The writers got lazy last night.

I was assuming for the sake of argument, unrealistically, that it was loaded with birdshot. Just for more benefit of the doubt.

I will buy Hank/Gomez surviving a bit once behind the tire/engine area. Unless armor piercing rounds are involved. But Walt? Bullets go through car side panels like it's paper. This I know from experience, having personally seen what an AK-47 can do to a Volkswagen Rabbit.

the bigger issue for me is that when the shooting started, hank and gomez were standing straight up without cover. homeboy with the AR had time to draw a bead and was resting it on the truck. that first shot puts down whoever he's aiming at. at least using the suburban's engine block as cover is more plausible. one of the things that's made this show so great is its ability to avoid kitschy shoot 'em up gun battle crap, but the last scene betrayed that a bit. i also think the forced cliiffhanger stuff is more heavy handed than we're used to.

On the other hand, the scene beginning with Walt seeing the garbage can pic on his phone until his arrival at the burial site was truly great, and the Hank/Marie phone call was a superbly done admixture of happiness and sadness.
I loved the episode, and I hate to sound like some kind of a BB Trekkie, but I agree that both Hank and Gomey should have been swiss cheese. For some reason they went A-Team on this one. I mean, these are the same guys who took out the Arizona crew in about 15 seconds. Suddenly they can't hit anybody? Still, a great episode though. I thought Hank was going to make it to the final episode, but looks like he's toast.

I think the episode should have ended with the image of Johnny Hitler's gang firing, then panned over to a terrified, and helpless looking Walt. There would have been no need to show Hank and Gomey, until their bodies are shown at the start of the next episode.

The call to Marie was both poignant (it was obvious Hank had brewed his last Schraderbräu), and significant. Marie knows he had Walt, and Hank's death, can't be covered up. This will either lead to Uncle Himmler taking care of Mrs. Lavender (less likely), or to her letting the full DEA, and ABQ police know everything she knows.

I also predict Walt stops the murder of Jesse. Pinkman looks like he is going to make it through the episode, until Todd puts a bullet in the back of his head as emotionless, as he was with Drew. At which point, Jack says, "you owe me a batch of the blue".

OK... here's a prediction. Jessie takes off in the Chrysler 300s. The skinheads take off after him because they are like sharks, and the only reason they were shooting at Hank and Gomez was to get to Jessie. Jessie takes off and they follow him leaving Hank, Gomez, and Walt still alive.

(I could be getting paid for this.)

Hmm nice predictions so far, but next week's episode is called Ozymandias. I'll go ahead and indulge you all:

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away

"I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

The poem is about the end of empires. Next week will be about the end of Walt's empire. The money will be gone. My guess is that the Aryans end up with it.

I also predict that after Hank dies, Marie will go ape shit. She is fiercely loyal and won't take it lying down.
