Okay, I don't really want to re-open this topic, but why would Costco have such a return policy if it wasn't intended to be used? What would be the point? Why would you guarantee your customers' satisfaction unless you really wanted to guarantee their satisfaction?Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I honestly can't remember. I've had it for like 5 years I think. But I figure I buy so much stuff from Costco there's a better than even chance. Good enough for me!Originally posted by The_Tick View PostWas the origional one (see broken) purchased from Costco?
If so, according to some posters, you should happily return it. Hence that awesome return policy."It's true that everything happens for a reason. Just remember that sometimes that reason is that you did something really, really, stupid."

I miss Trader Joes. Utah needs to let grocery stores sell wine. Then we'll get TJ's and Aldi. It's what's keeping both of them out of Utah at this time...Originally posted by TheBYUGuy View PostWe just finished our Dark Chocolate Pom yesterday. Fantastic. In other exciting news, our neighbors just returned from Chicago and brought us a treat--Trader Joe's Chocolate Covered Pom seeds. These ones are in fact real pom seeds, and I'm excited to try them out during the Fiesta Bowl tonight.

Because it doesn't cost Costco anything - they have charge back rights with all their suppliers. Suppliers HAVE TO take back anything that's returned to Costco. So you're not ripping off Costco. You're ripping off the manufacturer directly. Remove the middle-man...Originally posted by falafel View PostOkay, I don't really want to re-open this topic, but why would Costco have such a return policy if it wasn't intended to be used? .... and your point is? Do you think the supplier doesn't know about this clause in the Costco contract? Of course they do. They are still clamoring to sell their stuff in Costco. They wouldn't sign up if it weren't a net benefit to them.Originally posted by statman View PostBecause it doesn't cost Costco anything - they have charge back rights with all their suppliers. If you have an x-box that works for 5 years and then dies, even if you bought it from Costco, it has done its intended purpose.
Just because it "can" be returned doesn't mean it should.
It is a technicality to me.
I just couldn't do it.
If we were talking 6 months, no problem. If we are talking 18+ months or longer then I take issue with it. And yes...I would look down on the person.
(Just my opinion. I am not making a statement whatsoever on who it right and who is wrong. I am not being an "ahole" by sharing my opinion.)

Either way, I don't want to raise the "ethical" implications of this, as that has been thoroughly debated. I just want to know if, ethics aside, there is any good explanation for why Costco maintains this policy if they do not intend for their customers to take advantage of it. I can't think of one.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I don't think Costco believes anybody in their right mind would bring back an Xbox after 5 years. To me, a right minded individual would that "Hey...after 5 years it has broken. I need to buy a new one." Never once in my mind would I say "5 years? That is it? Back to Costco for you.
And I will always state I am sharing my opinion, because I would hate for anyone to take what I say as gospel. You and whatever his name is have cured me of thinking people would automatically know.

Well, we'll just drop it then. Ultimately, this topic is not that interesting.Originally posted by The_Tick View PostI can't even get into the debate without getting into the debate.

If a dude buys an xbox and plays it once a year for five years...and it breaks...does that give him more of a right to return it to Costco then somebody that played it 5000 times in 6 months? At what point does returning the xbox become "ethical"? Especially when ones "satisfaction" is a inconsistent variable?
I'm just thinking out loud here. I dare not speak in threads that are owned or occupied by the tick...because he is the official trouncer of people's thoughts and opinions.

If you buy a car, and drive it only 5 times in 5 years and the 6th time you go to start it and it doesn't start, who should be on the hook?Originally posted by scandell View PostFood for thought.
