  • So I don't know if I always exercise the best parenting judgment. I'm not used to my 9 and 5 year old girls fighting with each other because they get along so well. Today they were arguing back and forth and it was driving me crazy so I grabbed some popcorn and yelled catfight and sat in front of them and watched. They stopped fighting, so I guess there's that.

      LOL. Awesome.
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

        • I've had the ceiling fan running in the bedroom for a couple of weeks non stop, and I began to wonder how much it costs to run a ceiling fan 24 hours. Did a little research online and found out that it only costs about 20 cents a day at the medium speed. I've had it on the slowest speed. Maybe I'll live a little and crank the sucker up to medium tonight.

That's good info, Clack. thanks for sharing. Seems like I've been running the ceiling fan in my bedroom for about 60 days non stop.

I'd be interested to know if a ceiling fan cuts the cost of running A/C and if that potential cost savings is greater than or equal to $0.20/day.

              • I constructed a computer from scratch this evening for the first time. I know this is NBD to many of you, but I'm quite pleased. I am currently typing this while on it.

The first time I did that my wife asked me why I would go to all that trouble when it's easier and cheaper to buy one that somebody else put together. I asked her why she just bought a $200 food dehydrator so she could make her own beef jerky.

It can't be that easy making memory chips.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Good for you, and I understand the feelgoodness of the process. What kind of components did you use? Did you go with Windows 8 or stick with 7?

My last computer I built was about a year ago, and my wife has taken it over 98%. I'm regulated now to a pretty nice laptop, but when I'm on Google Earth there's no comparison between the two, as the desktop kicks ash.

Windows 7, of course. Windows 8 is a virus.

I have messed around with computers for a long time but I'd never actually built one. This sucker is pretty decent - liquid cooling on an i7 4770k at 3.5 ghz w/ 24gb ram. All on an Asus z87 deluxe Mobo. Three hard drives for a total of 4TB of storage. I almost got an SSD but didn't the last minute. I stole the video card and power supply from my old desktop (both were installed aftermarket by me, and were good).

I wanted it for advanced video and photo editing, but it's good enough for a gaming machine I think.

Yes, well, I don't think everybody in the family is ready for a Ubuntu build.
