She looked somewhat familiar but I did not know from where. I find women comedian not that funny. Sorry if I am sexist, but I have listened and PMS, and lesbianism are not in my laughing wheelhouse.

and yes, she comes off very different than the above.

It seems to work the best for me.

Great yard, PAC. One day I will have a yard like that. It will be awesome.

        Thanks for the inspiration.

There's a curvy path (again, pavers) that runs around the entire lawn and small patio areas--it's between the gazebo and those yellow roses you can see at the far end of the lawn. As we were designing the backyard, I specifically envisioned the sidewalk as a track my grandkids would ride big wheels around when they visit--a vision that was realized at Christmastime. Now I just use it to stroll around on cool summer evenings while pondering CUF's themes of the day.

Speaking of landscaping, does anyone else hate Weedeating? Those machines are the biggest pain in the butt. The string thing always gets cut and it's impossible to fish out. When it is working, then it's blasting weeds and little rocks at your shins a million miles an hour. I would rather mow ten lawns than trim one with a weedeater.

You are young, with LITTLE world experience. I love weedeating. Newer trimmers (even the cheap ones) have far, far fewer problems with the string than the ones from even 10 years ago. Also, you must trim in the wrong direction if the rocks are getting blasted at your shins. Reconsider your trimming posture, return, and report.

Hey PAC! My self-parody didn't go over so well. If the humor of someone praising your weed patch over your lovely yard wasn't obvious, let me just say it straight -- nice work! Your yard is really beautiful, and could only be improved, in my opinion, by the addition of a volley ball court. I think your 'middle way' approach is fine, and the results are lovely. And I missed the gazebo in the back... a pergola AND a gazebo?? Now that is just crazy insane awesome. But you should really plant something on your arbor. I like Star Jasmine for the fragrance, and it is an evergreen.

For a moment, I thought you might be serious, and that the Before picture had brought you a nostalgic tear as it looked like the site of Burning Man '09. But after reflection, I knew your aesthetic sense would win out, so at least I got it. And the star jasmine tip is a good one. The yard is still a work in progress. Everyone is invited to drop by. Grilled meats [and tofu or portobello mushrooms for the squeamish] and beverages are on the house.

You should be more careful about what you offer as some of us live close enough to do just that.

nice year btw. If I do come by, can I bring my big wheel?
                          PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Only if you're wearing lycra and you permit me to photograph the event for CUF's enjoyment.

Anyone have any experience with Siberian/Chinese Elms? I have about a dozen of them in my back yard and they grow like crazy and create a huge mess. They also spread quickly too, like weeds. I have a ton of seedlings that have sprung up. Anyone know how to get rid of them? Can I just cut them all down, or do I need to do something more than that to kill them. Should I just call a tree service? Some of them grew about 10 feet this year and they're blocking the view from my back deck.

Also, any suggestions on replacement trees? Once I clean up the yard, I want to put in a couple nice trees that will grow quickly and provide some shade but that won't create the mess that the Siberian Elms have.

What is this world coming to? You're just going to kill all the Chinese and Russians and repopulate their lands? That's disgusting.
