I like the prevalence of the name Jaden in Utah. It's nice to see Utah returning to the old habit of giving their kids names that are usually only seen in the African American community.

"Here is a list of names that I feel are the ten worst names for 2008 in Utah. These are taken from the 100 most popular baby names in Utah, and these are the worst in my opinion. There are worse names in Utah, such as Bobika, Gordonine, Provona, and Lajames, but these do no make the top 100 list. To have made the top 100 list, multiple hillbillies from Panguich to Willard had to have coincidentally picked these names. Here goes:
Boys:
Ryder, Carter, Braxton, Boston, Easton, Jaxon, Bridger, Kyler, Corbin, Kaden

Girls:
Reagan, Kennedy, London, Valeria, Aspen, Peyton, Paisley, Brooklyn, Riley, Miley."

the following names I see no problems with: Carter or Peyton. Both of them seem like rather typical names. Those names seem very different from a bunch of the crazy names on the list.

I am sure those that knew my son's name would probably make fun of the name as well. The problem is the name fits him perfectly, and when he is playing middle linebacker for BYU, it will be one of the most kick-ass football names you've ever heard.

Here are the names of the grandchildren in my and my wife's families:

Dallin, Jaxon, Noah, Mia, Mikele, Hailey, McKenna, Ivy, Austin, Schaeffer, Harlie, Braxton, Justice, Chloe, Belle.

Two of those are my children. Unlike others, however, it doesn't bother me in the slightest when people don't like the names we chose for our children. Chances are, I don't like the names they chose for theirs, either.

As long as its not Ivy or Harlie you're safe :P

If they ever make a remake of the Jerk, the main character can be adopted by a poor Mormon family as opposed to the much more un-PC poor black family. Here's to hoping that names ending in o also become popular in Utah. I would love to see a Craphonso suiting up for BYU.

Ugh...Just seeing that spelling makes me cringe. It says "my parents were too uneducated to know the correct spelling and too lazy to look it up.

Check this, my brother-in-law's sister-in-law has a Filipino husband, they named their kid Marley Felicidad. She was born within two weeks of Marley. My bro-in-law's kids have two cousins named "Marley." They call mine, "Marley X," which is as cool a nickname as you can have.

I prefer the Spanish spelling of "queden" which is an imperative command for a third-person plural object to "stay put," though it does need the reflexive "se" on the end.

Some people we know in town. Kids are Cora, Caden, and Cambrie. I mean what kind of name is that? A combo of 2 stinky but delicious cheeses?

My wife's name is Tiesha and only in two states has she ever met anyone with her name (and she has lived in 12), Alabama( all African Americans) and Utah (all Mormon Americans). In Alabama we met a dozen or so, in Utah we met 4. Which is just another, piece of antecdotal evidence that Mormons and black folks like man of the same names. I know all of the LaDawn's and LaVell's out there are shaking their heads in agreement.

As far as naming one's children the trendy flavor of the month (whether by accident or design) you get a lot less grief I believe than if you name your children Detroit and Joaquin as we did. You get a lot of quizzical looks from people if you do that, and some outright hostility.

With a last name like mine you can name your kids anything and no one will give them crap because they will be focused on their last name exclusively.

I am also not a big fan of the name themes. Like the first letter all being the same or I know a family that has 5 kids and the names start in order from oldest to youngest with A,B,C,D,E.

A guy I work with new triplets growing up all with A names and they called them AAA. He thought that was cool and wanted a theme with his kids, so all of his kids are named after cities:

Page (girl), Alexandria(girl), Denver(girl), Garrett (boy) (a stretch but there is a Garrett, Indiana or something like that). He refers to his kids as the "City Kids" kind of odd to me, but whatever floats your boat.
