The parents angle of this story is hard to believe. I think it is only the teacher who is stating that they knew. Maybe that will change, but I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Here in the Philippines I see that kind of thing often. Parents rent or sell their kids to much much older foreigners. It used to be very common in the more expensive areas of Manila. You would see black socks and tevas holding hands with girls that couldn't be older than 14. That has greatly diminished in Manila the last few years, but is still very common in some of the other poorer islands in the country. It makes me sick.

Black socks and Tevas? Nobody is surprised that engineers are pedophiles.

            It's white socks.

In reality I'm proud to have never worn or owned Tevas.

They were pretty useful for river rafting.

What is wrong with Tevas? What do you use for flip flops?

No, I mean, don't most people use flip flops for flip flops/slippers?

Gotcha! You are referring to the shoe style of Tevas (multiple straps over an open sole). I was just referring to the brand. I have Teva brand flip flops. I also have the classic multi strapped Tevas. I love them both. However, I don't wear them with socks. I save my socks for burkenstocks.

They used to be called thongs until that term was commandeered by something else.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Some people still call them that. My mom, for one.

I think I did wear the strap style sandals back when I was a teenager but I always insisted on Nike (this was before I became a ridiculous Adidas fanboy). Now I don't buy strapped sandals at all. If I need a fully immersible sole that won't come off my feet, I have been known to wear aqua socks recently...which is clearly way less ridiculous than Tevas.
