I hear that Madonna uses all 4 fingers."I don't mind giving the church 10% of my earnings, but 50% of my weekend mornings? Not as long as DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket is around." - Daniel Tosh

Open I use index only most of the time. This allows me to play accents with my ring and pinky. Sometimes I'll play the open with three.
Bar when the root is on the fifth string I use two fingers.

Why? Do guitar players do it different than other people? If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

This is normal. I don't even know how some of you manage to do it w the ring finger, or why you would want to."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

So I tried this tonight. The thought had never crossed my mind. Probably produces the best sound for me out of the 3 options. But I'm playing it less with the tips of my two fingers, and more with the area just below the tips, which of course isn't really calloused. Might be uncomfortable for a little while.Originally posted by creekster View PostLay two finger tips across three strings for an open AAin't it like most people, I'm no different. Tons of rock songs require me to play "A" with only my index finger. Sometimes I need to keep the first E string free, because I am playing the whole chord, but most of the time it's power chords and that high E doesn't belong.
I also play open "A" with all three fingers, like the beginning guitar books teach, and especially when I need a clean sound. If the guitar has high action, I'm more likely to use three fingers.
At the fifth fret, I play the full "A" barre chord with all four fingers. I can play it with three, but I usually mute the "D" string when I do.We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

I can play the open including getting the high E to ring out. For some reason my finger developed the ability to do it. I'm with you on the higher action guitars. I have to use three fingers for that open.Originally posted by Sleeping in EQ View PostTons of rock songs require me to play "A" with only my index finger.
