    • Cool map, Ted. Looks like the high water mark was 2000. Then someone shot Joe Camel.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

      For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

      Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

      • That map seems to also track the same timeline of America losing it's coolness.

          Kentucky would be the coolest state in the Union.

          • Utah was the least cool state up until the more recent years and then NY passes it up.

            • Speaking of Geography, Demarcus Cousins is playing for the USA in the FIBA championships right now.

              Reporter: Do you know where Slovenia is?

              Cousins: Do you know where Alabama is?

              Cousins wins.

              I honestly don't know exactly where Slovenia is. I could probably get pretty close if given an unlabeled map. But Slovenia is inconsequential. I thought it would be interesting to compare it to Alabama:

              Population
              Slovenia = 2 miillion
              Alabama = 4.8 million

                I wonder how well I would do on a map quiz of state-level political divisions in countries larger than an average state east of the Mississippi.

                  • I don't want to brag, but I live in one of those. OK, actually an unincorporated area a mile or two away from the border of the town, but my kids go to school with them and there has been talk of our neighborhood becoming incorporated into the town.

                    Plus I grew up right next to one of the others, and was in the same high school. I've pretty much been riding the privilege train my whole life.

                      I heard that and thought it was awesome. I love when smarmy reporters trying to make people look stupid get beat at their own game.

                      • I think that affluence map is pretty interesting. I've never heard of Hidden Spring, Idaho, but based on relative land value alone, there is a chance that a 100k house in Idaho is about a million dollar house in a place like Southern California.

                        Similarly, Paradise Valley has some of the most obscenely amazing houses I've ever seen. If you don't mind living in the desert, your accommodations are very well subsidized.

                          I have no idea why you would wonder this. Alabama is more consequential to the world economy that Slovenia. His response was great.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. My wondering is independent of the incident. I too think he handled himself well in that moment. I'm just wondering, because I'm curious and love maps, how many I could locate by name on a map, not knowing the country they were in. I think I'd do pretty well, but there's so much that I don't know about the world.
