I wonder what percentage of Americans wouldn't be able to find England on a map. I bet it is pretty high.

Anybody could miss England, all tucked away down there.

Nebraska, by contrast, elicited the following responses:

        [Blank] (x3)
        Nobody Cares
        Middleshire
        Nebraska (x2)
        Who cares
        Oklahoma
        Iowa
        Further South Dakota
        Farmland
        Not a clue
Idea (third state in a row containing "absolutely" "no" "idea" and "sorry")
        Chicago/The Mid West

Appropriately, an equal number of people were able to successfully identify Nebraska as were able to recognize that nobody cares about Nebraska.

You've never tried to tell me that.

I thought you were referring particularly to Nebraska the institution of higher education (or maybe even more specifically the football team), not necessarily the state--did I misread you?

The British Library just realeased over 1,000,000 images to the public domain scanned in from books in their collection. They're asking people to crowdsource identification of certain things, and categorization too. Here are some examples from the "Maps" set that has been compiled in the last 72 hours. http://www.flickr.com/photos/britishlibrary/
