I'm rocking my Dayton cap tomorrow and talking some serious trash!

    • Dayton was a pretty good basketball team this year, although they had some inexplicable losses. They should have defeated UNM in the Pit, choking away the game at the end. BTW, what is a Flyer? Does it relate to the Wright Brothers?

It is a reference to the Wright Brothers, who invented the airplane while working in their bicycle shop in downtown Dayton. Rudy Flyer is our mascot; donning the scarf and goggles of an early pilot. He's very intimidating.

          • Watched a documentary last night called The Last Truck about the GM plant closing in Moraine just outside Dayton. Seems like that would have been a really depressing time to live in Dayton. I'm glad YOhio has been able to help others find joy in Dayton recently.

It has to be a tough job. This thread reminds me of the North Korea blog someone posted a couple of days ago.

                  • The DOD has assigned a unit of Predator drones to the Ohio Air National Guard Base in Springfield, a base about 15 miles outside of Dayton. It will be interesting to see these things in action, assuming they get FAA clearance for flight testing. The air base is closing it's current F-16 mission. For years they've operated as a training hub for foreign ally fighters. It was routine to see F-16's flying overhead and I'm going to miss gazing up at these beautiful machines, but the UAV has it's own unique beauty. Certainly not as breathtaking as an F-16, but still pretty cool.

                      • Two great pieces of news to report.

First, the Sharonville Ford plant has bolstered it's workforce by about 100 for the production of a new six-speed heavy-duty transmission for the Ford F-series Super Duty truck.

Second, the Dayton Air Show has added the B-17 and DC-3. Cool!

                          • Thanks, Dayton. At our weekly pick-up basketball run we have been having more and more non-members showing up and it has worked to push out some of the members I really hated playing with. Win-win.

Last night I noticed a tat on the arm of one of the new guys, that was the state of Ohio with a dot in the southwestern corner. I asked the guy if he was from Cincinnati? He said "No, Dayton!" I could tell that Dayton must be a really great place to be from as I love living in Eugene, but know not a single person with a Eugene tattoo.

I didn't have my phone or I would have asked him if I could take a picture of it, hopefully he is there next week.
