This is definitely a HuskyFreeNorthwest should shut his face forever before I make him shut it moment. That much I do know.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostIsn't that more of a "Thanks, Cinci, CBus and Cleveland" moment? People from those great cities will be coming and making Dayton better with their visits?

Well that's too bad ... if they had done this earlier we could have had lunch together every week ... Obama clearly hates mini-CUF get togethers.Last edited by pelagius; 01-28-2010, 03:11 PM.

Don't go blaming Obama for this. It was George W. Bush who didn't get this done earlier! He's the one who hates mini-CUF get togethers.Originally posted by pelagius View PostWell that's too bad ... if they had done this earlier we could have had lunch together every week ... Question: What do the American inventor Colonel Edward Deeds and television funnyman Steve Carell have in common?
Answer: They were both graduates of Dennison College.
Like Carell's television character Michael Scott, Deeds found himself as a workplace leader at a young age. Upon graduation from Dennison and Cornell, where he studied Electrical Engineering, he went to work for the Thresher Company in Dayton, Ohio. This company shared a building with National Cash Register (traitors) and young Deeds caught the eye of founder Frederick Patterson. He hired Deeds to oversee the electrification of NCR factories. Deeds later left NCR, only to return in the early 1900's to develop an electrical engine to power the cash registers. It was at this time that he struck up a lifelong friendship with Charles Kettering. Deeds provided Kettering and his team of scientists with space in his barn to help create the electric automobile starter; this group of innovators later came to be known as the Barn Gang.
Deeds lived a lifetime of accomplishment and spread the spirit of innovation wherever he went. He and Kettering founded Delco; along with Orville Wright he founded the Dayton-Wright Airplane Company; he was involved with the production of the only U.S. bomber used in WWI (the DeHavilland DH.4); he achieved the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army; he presided over a sugar company; founded an astronomical society; and even ran NCR until he retired.
After all of this, he and his wife decided to give back even more to the fine community of Dayton who helped support him as he innovated for America. In 1942 Deeds unveiled the Deeds Carillon; a 151 ft. high structure with 23 bells, each signifying a different member of the Deeds family. Today that Carillon tower stands in the middle of a park dedicated to Dayton's contributions to America. The Wright Flyer, the Barney and Smith passenger car, the Stoddard-Dayton automobile, the Xenia passenger car are available for all to see. And of course, there you can find the Deeds Barn.
So the next time you start your car, give a thanks to those like Charles Kettering and Colonel Deeds who looked to the future and saw possibility. While you're at it, thank Dayton.

"According to a Boston Globe story placed on the newspaper’s Web site Tuesday, Dietrich said he was “very close” to agreeing to terms with a group of Ohio private investors that would “force” Terrafugia to move to Ohio. The report did not identify investors."Originally posted by YOhio View Post
