There is an O. O can't be in the first spot. Can be one or two Os, in the 3rd and/or 4th spots. No Y. So I'm starting with two consonants, and one is N???

I've been playing for about a week. Today's was definitely on the more difficult side. Is there a way to go back and play prior Wordles? I think it's fun. Reminds me of a game I used to play with my dad involving colored pegs. Can't remember the name of it but it was similar to this.
I have a couple 1st and 2nd word combos that cover all of the most-used letters. But I hate wasting a turn just to find out letters, so i've gone away from that strategy, and I try to only guess words it could actually be. This probably costs me some moves some days and saves me some moves on other days.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

It was Mastermind, which we liked a lot. Similar, but used colors instead of letters.

I don't think going back is possible. The guy who developed it said he made it a one-per-day puzzle so he and his wife (the original targets of the game) would not waste too much time. Actually, I think the one-per-day thing is the secret to why it has gone viral and a world phenom. People don't get tired of it and it enhances comparisons between friends.

How can you guess words that it could actually be on the first or second attempts? Certainly the first.

Yeah, I just googled and read the rules, and that was definitely the game. I saw your prior post about a similar game but "Mastermind" was not a game I remembered. Thinking back, I believe we played a homemade version without a name. Which fits, nicely with my childhood paradigm, considering the knockoff cabbage patch dolls we also owned.

Well, most every 5-letter word is on the table for your first guess, right? But once you get feedback telling you certain letters or places, I don't like to guess a word that I know isn't it just to find some more letters. Follow?

Ah. So the same strategy almost everyone follows. Got it.

I think a lot of people don't follow that strategy. FWIW

I went back and did the first 3. Much harder than the current words.
Just tried no. 1. Got it in 3 tries.
