Looking like the iPhone 5 will once again be out-of-date when it is released. No NFC chip. This is why we need competitors like Android and Windows mobile pushing iOS. Even with competition from these competitors, the iPhone is consistently out-of-date when it is released. I can't imagine how bad the situation would be if there wasn't competition.

I agree on competition. Fortunately we do have Android and Windows mobile. Not sure where you are going with this. Do you think Android and Windows are going to disappear?

I think there is an optimal phone size. That Samsung SII and SIII screens are beautiful, but I don't want a phone that big in my pocket. I think the new size for the iPhone 5 will be just right for me.

Yep. I have a pocket within my pants pocket (Jos A Bank pants) and the iPhone fits perfectly in there and it's protected from keys and such at the same time. It's the perfect size.

There's a guy in my ward that just got a new phone. It's huge, like way too big huge. It almost looks like a small tablet. Some of the Samsung phones look to be too big for me. I guess when you have an iPhone and a iPad you have what you need.

I have the Droid Incredible 2. It's the same size as the iPhone (it's a quarter of an inch taller) with a 4 inch screen compared to the 3.5 inch screen on the iPhone. So the screen is right in between the iPhone and the phones with the huge screens (aside from the Galaxy Note). The Droid Incredible 4G is also basically the same size.

I compared my phone to my mother's iPhone (she stayed with us last week), and the half inch (and it's also a little wider) makes a pretty big difference.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is almost a full inch taller than the iPhone and over a 1/3 of an inch wider. It's a big phone.

With that said, the sales figures on big Samsungs, HTCs, and Motorolas dwarf the sales of, say, the Droid Incredible 4G which is also has the latest iteration of Android. That indicates one of two things or a combination thereof -- people that care about the phone not being too huge are going with Apple and/or people that are buying Droid phones are predominantly opting for the ones with the big screen. I think the latter increasingly view their phones as mini-computers and they want to interact with it with as much ease as possible which larger screens enable (to a certain point -- is the Galaxy Note selling very well?).

I won't go below the screen size I currently have, which means I will not even consider an iPhone based on screen size alone. And I think there are a lot of consumers like me. The assumption is that the iPhone 5 is going to at least a 4 inch screen. Get rid of the stupid home button, and the iPhone can basically keep its current size.

It will also be a little taller (1/2 inch or so and they will squeeze more space from the top to bottom. Size (diagonal) will be 4 inches and the length/width ratio will be 16:9. It will also be a little thinner than the current model. Sounds about right to me.

If the iPhone 5 is indeed a half inch taller, then it will be pretty close in size to the Droid Razr which is probably the phone you're referring to (it's 5.15 inches tall).

Again, lose the home button, and they can get the 4 inch screen with roughly the same dimensions as the current iPHone.
