firmed up the final plans... it will be a quick trip and we are going to pack a lot in.

2.5 days in upstate eastern pennsylvania and new york... church history. the mighty 'cuse to see some friends. cooperstown.

4 days in nyc. usual touristy stuff, and seeing wicked and probably lion king for the kids.

1 day in phily seeing the usual touristy stuff and then gettysburgh.

2.5 days in dc. usual touristy stuff.

kids are very excited and my mom and sister are coming with, as well as a nephew. should be a good time. i am a little bummed that it is the same time as the baseball allstar game so we won't be able to go to a yankee game, but that is okay.

last big trip we took with the kids was an alaskan cruise a few years ago, so the kids are really excited to get out and see the east coast.

I can't wait for the day when a 10+ day vacation is a "quick trip".

We leave in a month for NYC with the kids. Anyone have good advice for seeing the Met w/ children b/w the ages of 7 and 11.

Also, are the GoPasses or Explorer Pass worth the money. they seem like it to me. The Explorer Pass includes the choice of a bike tour across the Brooklyn Bridge, which would be pretty cool. One of those tour bus companies provides on/off privileges and also includes 3 selections of admission to Statue of Liberty, etc... might be worth doing that - or is it?

Haha! it is definitely a quick trip, but only in terms of not having a lot of time to see everything we want to. but, this is the longest vacation i have taken from work ever, and on that end we will have to see how it goes. deep down i'm worried that i will get constant phone calls, etc...

Stop in Rexburg on your way and we can go for a ride.

Focus on the Egyptian areas, particularly with the reconstructed temple, and the Period Rooms. Those are my nieces' (Viking's princesses) favorites.

We road-tripped to Northern California, Oregon Coast, Seattle, and Vancouver this past week: Monterey Bay Aquarium, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Eugene, Cannon Beach, Portland's Japanese, Rose and Chinese Gardens, Fort Clatsop, Astoria, Space Needle, a Seattle Duck Boat tour. We packed way too much into a week, but it was a lot of fun -- I think the kids liked it a lot.

Things went surprisingly well considering we had 2 adults and 5 kids packed into a minivan and a ton of driving. Potential disaster was averted when our otherwise very intelligent and pleasant tour guide in Vancouver said something like:

"Housing is so expensive in Vancouver. So many downtown office buildings were being converted to apartments a few years ago that the government had to place a moratorium on this or there wouldn't be enough office space. I really wish the government would do something about the cost of renting an apartment, too. "

I was ready to launch an Adam Smith and Ron Paul-inspired tirade about the invisible hand and the free market but my wife gave me the eye and I held back for the sake of the family and peace with our socialist neighbors to the north.

Sorry man -- I was thinking how great it would have been to meet you and the family. It was a whirlwind family-only trip and I was getting the stinkeye from the missus even for taking calls from friends. We really liked Oregon, though -- really beautiful despite the fact that it rained all week. We got pizza from some place called Mezza Luna in Eugene -- pretty good.

We went by the Autzen Stadium too. The traffic there on game-day must be totally heinous -- really kind of a difficult place to get in and out of even under summer break conditions.

On most days I have a strong libertarian streak. But I would strongly consider converting to socialism if I could live in Vancouver. It's just a beautiful city.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
