  • So what is the etiquette for opening gifts prior to X-mas? Im not talking about opening a gift on X-mas Eve. Here is our scenario: we have some relatives in town next week and coming over to our house for dinner. Then they head out and will be long gone for the holidays, one of them to China. Do you sometimes have relatives or friends open their gift early so that they can open it with you there? Or do you always insist that they take it home and open it on the day of? Have you ever opened a gift early at someone else's request?

You take this stuff way too seriously.

I bought myself a new DeWalt 20v drill combo for Christmas. I need to drill hole through the exterior wall of my house with a masonry bit yesterday so I unboxed it and took it for a spin. It performed beautifully and I carefully wrapped it back up.

I bought myself something and put it under the tree. I put "To Dad From Dad." the Puffy Check saw the tag and thought it was funny. A couple of days later I noticed the tag now reads "To Dad From Dad and Mom."

Your question appeared nervous and uptight. I think you need to relax. Maybe drink some spiked eggnog or something to take the edge off.

As far as opening gifts, I say do it when you want. We typically open on Xmas morning. We've opened them on Dec 22 because we were heading out that day to drive to Disneyland. This year we'll likely open a give on Dec 16 since the inlaws will be in town and they want us to open it with them around. When I was a kid we always opened one present on Xmas eve and that present was always pajamas.

We did the same thing when I was growing up. It was mostly something from an aunt or grandma. That is one tradition that myh wife and I carried over to our family.

We have them open them with us.. That way they can enjoy the gift you gave them and see the look in their faces etc. No Biggie..

                        • Santa is coming to our house this weekend. We're traveling Christmas weekend to spend Christmas in Oregon. Gidget didn't want to do presents Christmas Eve and then have to calm our kids down and put everything away before heading off to the airport. Not to mention, we didn't want to give them presents only to tell them they'll get to enjoy them in two weeks.

It will be a little weird.

Actually I don't think it is prohibited in any way. I am not a board member.

I think I will ask him for more syrup.
