    You know the family.

My kid just came in from the front yard. The roving brothers (5,7,9) shot him in the face. Glad it missed his eye.

I came in and asked my wife, "Hey, guess what the _______ boys all got for Christmas?"

    "What?"

    "Air Soft guns."

    "Whaaaaaaat???"

"Yeah, Son #2 has already been shot in the head."

"You have got to be kidding me..."

    "Nope." says I.

When these jokers started renting a year and a half ago, we had high hopes since there would be some more boys close to ours in age. After about 6 months, we were wondering when they'd move. Now, that day can't come soon enough.

    Merry Boxing Day.
They shot your kid in the head and all you do about it is complain to your wife?

I'd send my kid back over armed to the teeth and packing one of these.

        • PU, our neighbor's kid was almost blinded in one eye by an air soft gun. They should only be used with full-coverage goggles. You need to raise some hell.

Well, I can't find the parents to talk to them. So, I may just call the police.

Between this and the motorcycle crap, most of the neighbors have had it.

I was wavering on whether or not to call the police, but several people are encouraging me to do it.

Just out of curiosity, what would the good people of CUF do?

            • You could get them all some of these to go with the guns.

Seriously though, if the parents can't be found, I'd call the cops.

              • My sons friends from across the street told me they chased them down and were shooting at them, too.

I'll make another try for the parents before I call the police.

Then I'm going to get my kids some goggles and the automatic airsoft that was linked above.

Sounds like somebody needs a little bit of this:

"Don't expect I'll see you 'till after the race"

"So where does the power come from to see the race to its end...from within"

                    • I'd take two of my neighbors over to the house, a unified front with witnesses, and I'd ask to speak to the parents. If they weren't home, I'd tell the kids that they have 1 hour to find their parents before I call the police on them. If they were home I'd tell them something like, "Look, your children shot my child in the face and chased after some other kids. Those toys are too dangerous for them to use they were they are using, and we expect you to educate them immediately about when and where and how they can be used appropriately. Riding motorcycles through my yard, while very disrespectful and annoying, only damages the grass. Shooting my kid or anyone's kid is dangerous and we will not tolerate that kind of behavior at all." If they are anything but apologetic, I'd follow-up with something like, "Consider this our only warning. Next time we will let you explain things to the police."

A problem I have in writing about these things is that I'm always much more diplomatic when I actually have these conversations. The above might sound like bluster, but its' somewhere around what I'd actually say.

The problem we face is that, as is the case with Utah, they are members of the ward.

I guess, however, if things get ugly, it will give me a reason to be less involved in church so that I don't see them.

                        Good thoughts.

                        • I have today off of work thanks to Xmas falling on Sunday. It's been a great day where I've gotten nothing done because I've been playing with my kids. This morning the kids woke me up and reminded me that I promised them crepes, so I made a batch.

I've also put a puzzle together with my daughter that loves puzzles, played tanks with my son, taken my daughter to the paint store and we painted a craft, then we played monopoly. I figure tonight maybe my son and I will watch some football together.

I would call the police. It is illegal and you have no reason to think that talking to the parents will make a difference. In fact, you have every reason to think it won't.

If one of your kids get their eye shot out what difference will it make to you that they are members of your ward? I am the last guy to tell you to bare your fangs at every opportunity, but I think this is a situation where you need to respond strongly. I don't think you have the luxury of in action here.
