Coming up with your name

I was thinking of everyone's board name and I got to thinking about mine. UteStar is pretty appropriate and I think all of you would agree. I guess if I have one regret is that I could have added a little more ooohhhppphhhh to my name. I probably should have changed it to: UteStar!

The exclamation point would have really put me out there. Any reason on your board name and would you make any changes now?

I've used Surfah for as long as I can remember. Started with a yahoo email account about 12 years ago. I used to have the 33 attached which was my volleyball number in HS. I dropped that on CG because people always thought I was 33. I like the cheap Surfah sandals you buy at IGA or at the ABC stores in Hawaii. It's indicative of my style, my heritage, and what I liked to do before I was too embarrassed to take my shirt off at the beach.

I was literally eating some donutholes one afternoon when i first signed up for Cougarblue. I'm creative like that. In retrospect, I wish I had signed up on a day when I was eating a fish taco.

I actually was curious about it a few weeks ago. "Who is that unfairly imprisoned man", I thought, "whose cause Tim is championing?"

So I googled his prisoner number and found out your true motives.

...and my username was born. If I had a do-over, I'd choose a shorter name.

I've had different names on Cougarfan, Cougarboard, and here. I don't like my past to catch up with me. Clark Addison, for those who don't know, is a reference to the cross streets on which Wrigley Field sits.

I'm mostly happy with it. It is the only name I have carried over (From CG to here). My only problem with it is that I have a very definite image of a Clark (formed as an combination of influences from Superman, National Lampoon's Vacation, and a guy I used to know), and I don't really want people to think of that image when they think of me.

When I was a missionary we did some volunteer work at a Sr. Center. We went there twice a week.

There was this dude that watched cartoons all day. He was a former Golden Glove champion boxer in his way younger days. But all he wanted to do was play checkers and watch cartoons.

So, for 4 months I went in twice a week for an hour and played checkers with him. He was always watching The_Tick animated cartoon. At first I thought it was lame as hell, but then it started to kill me. I love the cartoon.

What Patrick Warburton did in the live production sickens me.

Interesting story. I didn't know that about Wrigley's address. And yes, you'll always be "Sparky" to me.

I chose Solon because it's ancient Greek and he was famous for helping warring sides compromise. I like to think I steer a middle path.

I didn't want to keep my utefans.net handle (Magister Ute) because I didn't want to have "ute" in my name on a BYU board (this was cougarguard).

In retrospect, I might pick another since it pegs me as a nerd, but I can't think of anything cooler. (hence, pegged as a nerd)

I thought of going with my other nickname that I use in things - IcePassion. But that always requires explanation. Plus my wife laughs about it.

At the time I picked mine on CB (I think it was around 1999), I was listening to Jim Rome a lot, so "SoCal" was in my mind. However, I initially signed up as SoCalCougar. But there was another "SoCalCougar" on CB, and he boardmailed me and asked me to change it, so there was no confusion. So (a little prickishly) I dropped the "ar".

I have started also using Bucky Goldstein, in homage to Steven Wright. I also have a completely different one on TBS, but someone else has it on CB, and I can't even pronounce it correctly - I should have gone with Bucky Goldstein.
