I used to get strep all the time when I was a kid. Chloraseptic's numbing power was a welcome relief when I had to drink something.

Don't want to toot my own horn, but my body's immune system ROCKS! I have a few little sniffles...but I have been sick 2 times in the past 15 years. 11 years ago, I had the flu for 2 days. 6 years ago, I was out for 2 days with flu-like symptoms. Other than that, a fine well tuned (and oiled) machine.

I've had strep throat at least a dozen times in my life, most of those as an adolescent but it crops up every couple of years or so. As a result of these bouts, my toncils are permanently swollen and roughly the diameter of a quarter at all times. When I get a sore throat I have to sleep sitting in a recliner to avoid cutting off my airway (imagine having golf balls in the back of your throat).

Chloraseptic Spray seems to help to swallow but even with antibiotics I spend a week in misery.

Test was positive. Strep. actually, at least they know what it is. Doc gave me antibiotics and some stuff for pain. He also gave me 2 free movie passes because I had to wait so long in the lobby. :rockon2:

I'm not sure that it was drug resistant. Didn't you just say that penicillin only reduces the duration of strep by 6 hours? I understand that was hyperbole, but I imagine the sentiment was serious.

I guess it could have been mono (no one ever told me that it was), but I didn't have any recurring effects the rest of that year, or ever, really.

Antibiotics shorten the duration of symptoms by a mean of one day about half way through the illness (the time of maximal effect), and by about sixteen hours overall.
