Say you are leaving to go to the gym and the alarm is set for 5:30. How many snoozes is too many before you're liable to upset your spouse for waking them up. Is a snooze acceptable in this case? Two snoozes? Three?
Snooze is never acceptable... if you want to get up at 5:37, set the alarm for 5:37. Same for 5:44, 5:51, etc. When the alarm goes off exert all the energy you have to getting up immediately and attacking the day. After a while you'll forget the snooze function even exists.
I'd say two snoozes is appropriate...and I would set the alarm to give a 10 minute buffer for the first snooze and then if you hit snooze that second time you're not actually 20 minutes behind. Sound logic says I.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
At 5:30, I think you are allowed one snooze. After that (at least in our house), there will be blood. Either get up or set an alarm for an hour later when you really intend to get up.

Tim bringing it strong. Snooze is never acceptable. Just get out of bed already.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
I had a roomate in college who would set his alarm for 5 am every morning (to read his scriptures) he snoozed till 7 for two straight weeks till I broke his alarm clock.

I get up earlier than most, but I usually snooze x1. I enjoy seven minutes of semi-lucid dreamland.

I agree with this. An even worse offense is when someone gets up before their alarm and they don't turn it off. So while they're obliviously showering I am searching for an alarm clock or cell phone to break.

I will see Tim and raise him: when you are sleeping in a bed with someone else, snooze is lazy and immature. You aren't in HS anymore. GTFO and get up like an adult. People that are asleep want to remain so, and your stupid ring tone multiple times is plain inconsiderate. And no, one snooze isn't cool, either.
I don't get snooze anyway. Wtf? Set your alarm for when you need to get up and then get up. That extra 5 minutes of sleep at 4:45AM isn't going to matter anyway.

We do have common ground! My wife would get violent if I snoozed during the week. I don't bother setting an alarm at all, on the weekend.

I put my phone on vibrate. The sound of the phone vibrating on my night stand is enough to wake me up and not bother my sleeping bride (most of the time).

You are being very considerate.
I am not anti alarm. Everyone is entitled to an alarm (although vibrate is optimal over ringtone). Multiple alarms and "sleeping in" is awesome when you are 15 years old and riding the bus to school.
Normally, I am the one who gets up early. If I am teaching an early class, I DO NOT snooze for fear that I will not make it to teach in time. But when it's just my own workout on the line, I usually hit snooze once, sometimes twice, because I love being able to roll over and snuggle up to danimal. In almost 13 years of marriage, he has yet to complain about this.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.
