I have been thinking a lot about the things that I do that bring me a lot of joy, despite not being grand or amazing feats. As I think back on this year I have been fortunate to have some experiences that are momentous, however those kind of things only come around on occasion and are often things that are out of our control.
I find that there are, however many small things that make me happy and are entirely within my control. I am trying to focus on doing those things more, hopefully thereby finding more happiness.
One of these things for me is pressure washing my driveway/patios. About 2-3 times a year I rent a pressure washer and spray everything down, creating a huge pile of dirt in the street. For 2-3 weeks following our cement looks great, this very light shade of grey and playing basketball with the kids doesn't leave your hands so dirty you look like a hobo. This week I decided to break down and buy a pressure washer, after looking at how much they cost I could have easily bought one with rental fees spent over the last 5+ years. I then spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening spraying to my heart's content.
As trivial as this sounds, I love the tangible recognition for the time I spent doing something. I'm not trying to brag about my pressure washing skills, which I am sure are in the elite percentage, rather to find out what things bring other people a smile and maybe expand my horizons.
