How many around here ride? What style, crotch rockets, cruisers, Harleys, touring, dual sports... whatcha got?

Which one is yours?

I used to be a big fan of crotch rockets. I am not sure if it has to do with age, size, or a change of lifestyle, but I am digging the cruiser and/or chopper look right now. Every spring when that first nice Saturday hits and the roads come alive, man what I wouldn't give to have a bike. It comes and goes. I doubt that I will get a bike until my kids are grown but I am a big fan. A buddy of mine at work has a sweet Road King w/21" wheel and 14" apes, that has given me the itch again. Looks very similar to this but with black apes and the wheel is black:

Grew up with motocross and enduro bikes. Had a Virago, Hurricane, and a Elite 80 Scooter in college. I currently own a DRZ 400 and my dad's old Yamaha DT 175 which I fixed up.

I prefer BMW (My favorite), Ducati, KTM, and bikes from the Japanese 3. I'm not a fan of Harley Davidson.

I ride a BMW Dakar 650. Here is a photo of the model (though not my bike). It is my primary transportation in Los Angeles. I've run 30,000 miles in the saddle on this thing:

I spent much of my pre-teen and teen years on a dirt bike. Even raced motocross a bit. Now I just have a scooter.

Why be embarrassed about a scooter? Unless it's not a Vespa.

Scooters are awesome. They are by far the best way to get around campus.

I love the classic look and the finish of a Vespa. But we went with the Kymco People 150.

Seemed to have more power than the Vespa and I like the handling with the larger wheels. And it was about 1/2 the price. Six years later and we have not had a single mechanical problem.

Those are great scooters. One of the reasons is they use the GY6 engine which is a rock solid Honda design. A couple of years ago the scooter bug hit so I researched Chinese brands as I'd heard varying things about their reliability and reputations. I found that several brands have models that run this engine and if you buy one you will most likely have a great scooter for years. Also parts are easy to find should the scooter need repair.

Saying something like this will only encourage me to buy a scooter. I generally don't give in to peer pressure, but motorized two-wheeled transportation is one of my weaknesses.

Keep an eye on the ads. Sometimes you can find a new scooter featuring the GY6 for around a grand. Several manufacturers rebadge the exact same scooter.
