The answer is Joseph Wheeler - He was a cavalary commander in the West - at one point he was Forrest's immediate commander. Forrest said he would never work for him again. He also commanded the few Confederate Regulars that opposed Sherman's March to the Sea. Some of the residents of Georgia saw little difference between his men and Billy's Bummers
After the war he served as a congressman from Alabama for several terms. When war was declared against Spain he volunteered and was made a Major General of volunteers. He served as the Cavalary Division Commander in Cuba, putting him in TRs chain of command. After Cuba he also served in the Philippines.
While in Cuba he appearently forgot who he was fighting and during one battle yelled "Come on boys, we've got the damn Yankees on the run again!" or words to that effect.Last edited by happyone; 05-25-2011, 06:44 AM.
