The manager of the Costco near me lives up the street. He told me Costco has a policy that they cap the markup on everything they sell. The other gas stations are waiting for the next guy to lower prices, so they're pretty similar to each other on the way down. They're just grabbing more profit per gallon while more people are travelling for the holidays, but they'll eventually settle in ten cents higher than Costco.

Costco in my area is, on average, 30 cents cheaper than almost everyone else. The lines are straight out of the 70s. I have to get premium, and there's this commercial fueling station close to my house where the premium is only 10 cents more. Needless to say, that's where I've been fueling up. I refuse to wait in a gas line to save ten cents per gallon.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

      • I paid $2.54 for diesel last Friday, and today at the same station I filled up for $2.99

I'd be curious as to the reasons.

The season is the reason. Lots of " over the river and through the woods" going on now.

            • Traveling to my brother's place northwest of Tucson. Don't plan on gassing up until Tempe. There happens to be a Costco right off the 10, regular is 1.95, premium will be 2.15. Vegas gas is ripoff right now.

                    • I'd rather pay .20 more a gallon to pull to the pump and wait in line. Waiting in line 5 cars deep doesn't make sense to me, but I see it everyday at our Costco.

Yup I can't remember ever waiting in line for gas behind more than one car. Even waiting for one car annoys the hell out of me.

                        • My wife and I were on the road last night and low on gas so we pulled in to a station to fill up. We were annoyed that the price was $2.28 per gallon since we can get it for under $2 at Costco. Then we realized the absurdity of the situation and started laughing.

                          • When we lived in St. Louis around 1999-2000 there was a safe, well-lit gas station about 1/2 a block from our apartment where gas was 99 cents/gallon for a while. That's where I always filled up the Chevy Corsica for just over $10 per tank. Of course at the same time in really sketchy neighborhoods it briefly got as low as 79 cents/gallon.

My wife, being the frugal and resourceful LDS woman that she is, would drive into said sketchy neighborhoods for cheap gas. We had a few arguments in which my main point was that if she gets raped and/or killed then saving 20 cents per gallon on the gas would be no consolation for me.

I may be small, but I'm slow.
